did anybody else get the feeling like they were gonna show their breakfast when they read this part?

In 15 seasons that Spielman has overseen personnel, the Vikings are one of only four NFC teams not to reach the Super Bowl, along with Washington, Dallas and Detroit.

seriously,  how often are those teams decisions the butt of jokes on this site (and about every other teams fan conversations)  and we are right there in the discussion when it comes to what this game is really all about.  ugh....
That's pretty sobering.
well thats because you are a better person than I am,  reading that makes me want to get fucked up.

The Vikings have two playoff wins under Spielman as general manager.

All RS's fault? No, but the buck stops @ his desk and Zimm's.

makes me sort of glad the NFL has pushed me away from their product.  Still hurts a bit, but definitely more in the don't give a f*#% camp now.

These articles I am reading are giving me a growing unease over the Wilfs ability to make the right decisions regarding football operations....

Been a long time since I've thought about Fran Foley, the TOA etc.

We have to hope they've learned a lot since those days.
They are masters of mediocrity.  16 years of basically .500 football. I have no faith in them.  They are better at bullshit p.r. about being contenders than actually contending.
I agree that the win/loss record is what it is...Mediocre.

And that's a big part of what they have to do - build a winning team.

But they've pretty much blown away all their predecessors with how (in just about every other area you measure a teams success) they've checked the box.

Best facilities, best stadium, corporate culture, local philanthropy etc.
That's nice but it doesn't win championships.  The team with the nicest stadium or the best practice facility doesn't have some bigger chance to win it all.  Teams with lousy facilities have won titles.   That stuff ultimately is just window dressing if you aren't a contender and we aren't.
when you are in a bitter cold state, with a high personal state income tax... you better have something nice to offer free agents that doesnt get taxed or count against the teams cap.
Or Rodgers/Favre

It makes it easier to get free agents and keep good players, which helps build the talent needed for championships.
They have not done that.  FA's sign for a lot of reasons, primarily money.  It's just more mythology with no facts to back it up.  Lots of teams have nice stadiums and practice facilities, we aren't unique.

Team p.r. convinces fans that peripheral stuff matters, or that the owner is "passionate" and wants to win.  Find the owner who doesn't want to win.

This is all just distraction from what matters- can they hire the right people and make moves that lead to football success?  So far, nope, not even a sniff at it for 16 years.

It's funny you pulled that part out because as I was reading this is the sentence that stopped me too. Everyone around here, including myself at times, like to think of Spielman as a great GM but when you read that, idk. This team has big problems that aren't getting fixed in one offseason. If Wilfs opt to "run it back" they risk sending the fanbase into a further spiraling apathy.

Here we are (again) debating the age old question of players vs coaching...

When I look at the talent that the coaches have gotten during the RS tenure, I cannot be convinced those coaching staffs have wrung the most out of their assets.

Zimmer was out-gamed at the biggest times, went through OC's like I go through toilet paper after a big taco dinner, never could play complimentary football etc.

Was he snake bit with Teddy, AD and then Bradford? Absolutely! But that doesnt excuse messing up the controllables he had control over.

Can I find fault with OL drafting under RS? How they mostly managed qb? The recent track record with DB's? Absolutely.

But not getting to a SB? I blame the coaches 99% 90%. And this from a fan who likes and respects Mike a lot.

actually..... they have 3 playoffs wins.   There was the depantsing of jerruhs gurls back in 09,  and then the mircle game in 17,  followed up by the second crushing defeat of the cheating saints in 19.

they only have 2 wins under Zimmer,  the 09 win was Chilly/Favre.

there, thats much better,  now I only have to drink until I cant remember Herschel Walkers name.

Dallas has been to the SB 8 times and won 5 times.  SB wins  were: 1971 (VI), 1977 (XII), 1992 (XXVII), 1993 (XXVIII), 1995 (XXX)
