So......

My only criteria is not to hire a coach that has kicked around the NFL and has "paid his dues" -- Childress and Zimmer.  Brady and Moore would be my front runners.  It will be interesting to see how they feel about Bieniemy as he coached here (but he is closing in on "paid his dues" status).

I like Daboll and Moore. With Bieniemy, I think that's mostly Reid's offense.

Curious to see what the offense looks like against Carolina. Does Zim finally get the message? It's been sent to him a few times now over the last few seasons without him really getting it. Or he gets it, but is too stubborn to listen.

wasnt he quoted,  shortly after he was hired,  as saying if he fails he will do it his own way,  he wasnt going to let outside pressures weigh in on his coaching and play calling? (paraphrasing here obviously)

What scares me about that quote is that I believe Childress said the same exact thing.

Yes, I have often posted that Zimmer is the defensive equivalent to Childress -- both stubborn old men.

and both needed top level talent to really bring their genius for the game to fruition.  to me its truly exceptional coaches that can get great results out of average players.

I like Zimmer, and think he's a good head coach, but his stubbornness (mostly on the offensive side of the ball) is going to be his downfall. Now, if they don't turn it around and he finally gets canned....then he can at least walk out singing My Way.

Childress had AD and Favre and screwed that up.  Childress was a fraud, spoke of accountability and allowed Favre to run the show.  And then sent players to beg farve to come back.

Zimmer's players like playing for him.  They come back for backup positions and cheaper deals.  The results in the season haven't been there, but at least he seems to honestly care about the players.

Agreed and this is why so many-- including myself-- supported him for years. But like you said, the results aren't there. Vikes gotta move on at some point, and that point might be this December.

I am at the 'Meh' point with him.  I liked him, think he is a great defensive mind.  But at some points need to see the consistent results.  But then again, it can always get worse.  Childress, Frazier are easy reminders.  And Belichick took a while to get it figured out, then he won 50% of the superbowls over 12 years.  Much of that was Brady, but he had the system in place to let Brady succeed.  You don't win consistently by changing coaches.

No disrespect, but I am not sure you can say Zimmer keeps the players accountable.  Breeland's play and off the field actions and yet he starts.  Dozier's play last year (and thank god he came back for a backup position and a cheaper deal).  Jefferson hardly saw the field until Bisi was injured.  O'Neill didn't see the field until Hill was injured.  And lets not forget Newman's mutiny.  https://www.sbnation.com/2016/12/26/1408...-game-planhttps://www.espn.com/blog/nflnation/post...snt-add-up.
