Well, they all can't have the kinds of high standards as Parler.

So glad I don't participate in ANY of the social media crap - no instagram account, closed my FaceBook down in 2009, no Tick Tock, no twitter etc etc. It seems to me that the most uptight / miserable / depressed people I meet are people who's lives are driven by Social Media. Those who avoid Social Media shit seem to be the most balanced people I meet. Oh, forgot to mention the new scourge that idiots in my town use, NextDoor. Ugh!
If used correctly, Twitter and Facebook can be very useful apps from a news perspective. I absolutely love Twitter because all in one place I can get beat writer/insider information on all of my teams. This is useful because I leave in Eastern Iowa and no news outlets report a damn thing on the Vikings, Twins, or Twolves. Also, the younger generation doesn't want to sit down in front of the tv in the morning or at night to catch the hour long news segment. With twitter, I am able to follow my news outlets and scroll through in seconds what the stories are for the day and then can choose to read about it.

Sure, narcissism is alive and well on FB, IG, Twitter, and Tik Tok, but I enjoy Twitter solely because of the reasons listed above. BTW, I dont have Facebook because like you, I got annoyed with folks. I believe that was in college too.

But it takes effort, without that effort it's just a an easy way to confirm what you want to believe.  Speaking for  Jonesers, my generation has not been able to handle it, it's the equivalent of finding that box of playboys the first time the folks leave you home when they go on vacation.  High risk that all that will be left is a dehydrated corpse, that hasn't left the basement for two weeks.  The endorphin rush of anonymously finding something on the internet that validates your most intimate suspicions, makes an easy target to be manipulated.

But what are the alternative options for people that choose
not to participate in Social Media?  Almost
all mainstream media outlets are doing the same thing that are the downsides of
social media.  Most of their “news” is
just scouring the social media sites for hot juicy clickbait type stuff and then
rewriting it for their audience as fast as possible.  Almost no one is doing actual journalism
anymore and everyone is picking their audience and then creating content that
matches their audience’s pre-existing worldviews.  I don’t think one can say social media is
garbage without saying mainstream media is garbage, because they both are using
the same tactics, the only difference being with mainstream media, you know
they are bought and paid for, and with independent social media, it’s a little
more wild, wild west out there.

The mainstream media has lower approval ratings than any
person in government.  They’re worse than
Trump.  They’re worse than Biden.

Twitter is great for sports highlights, music/concert info from fav artists, and watching people fall off crates.

Since the beginning of media everything has been about making money. What makes money? Stories that draw attention. Why are murder stories and kidnappings that go beyond two weeks more popular than something genuine like folks building a church or house together for someone in need? The first part draws more viewership, thus creating more money.

Social media just the bias stuff stuff more obvious, especially when you only follow what you want to follow. I don't think what I am doing takes a lot of effort, it's truly being aware of who continues to post good content based on your interest level. For example, while I predominantly follow Vikes/Twins/Twolves writers, I do find others that post good content about the leagues that way I am getting a balanced diet.

Want to enjoy social media? Then don't follow folks that post stupid shit.

See I don't buy that all journalism is just parroting social media.  There are many quality sources, they just may not be "free' and it may take some effort.  Any time I hear someone use the term "mainstream media" and refer to it as a monolithic group with a single agenda, I can't take them at face value.  Particularly when the "quality" of the journalism is judged by approval ratings and compared to polarized political entities.  When I hear about an event of interest, I  want to learn about it. Being aware that my own natural comfort is finding something that agrees with what I want to believe, conformation bias.  I used to follow twitter and after awhile relized I was just following "influencers" rather than sources, not only the story, but how to feel about it, same with FB.   If your interested in the reality of a story, it's the consumers responsibility to find that.  I have no expectation or desire to find something that will just feed me truth, or will that truth be to my personal liking.

99% of this country is too lazy and/or too dumb for that. Too set in their Fox or CNN ways.

Conservies and Libratards.

I know I'm old fashioned, but I still feel its the role of news reporting to report the known facts, not an opinion.
