Season Over For ISJ

It now makes sense why they were willing to give up the 4th for Herndon, we definitely needed a #1 TE.  Hopefully, he can step up and fill that role.  It's too bad Davidson didn't flash in camp.
Sounds like the want to put Davidson on the PSQ, but he's getting interest from other teams.

As Mike Zimmer talked about going more three wide on offense, especially on third down, receiver Dede Westbrook is considered a "plug and play" option for them, Kirk Cousins said, and he's continued to practice with the first-team offense this week.

Mike Zimmer: Dr. Chris Larson repaired Irv Smith Jr.'s meniscus, "which is the best thing for his longevity. If we would've taken the meniscus out, from what I understand, he would've had an arthritic knee and his career would've been shortened."

Moving forward, the Vikings offense will have to adjust, especially on third down where they were hoping to deploy Smith as a mismatch threat in the slot, Zimmer said. "We'll probably go with three wide [receivers] now. Some of those things will have to adapt and change."

In Herndon, the Vikings saw a tight end who was "pretty good in most areas; decent blocker, pretty good hands, runs decent. So, of all the tight ends we looked at, he's the one we thought was the best option," Zimmer said.

There were talks for Dallas G out of Philly but it sounds like the price was too high.

This season has the feeling of a car crash with this team

Not sure if we are overreacting as fans, but that's my feeling as well. As I and others have said, a nice win against the Bengals and this is in the rearview obviously. But right now, I'm a little bummed.

I think it's fine to be a little worried about this team given how last year went and not seeing many of our starters play in preseason....  but this is a much more talented team than last year.

Problem is, we're down a young potential playmaker in Irv, we have a lot of new faces on defense that need to gel, and our illustrious "leader" isn't vaccinated so we have that ticking time bomb in the background just waiting to explode.

I'll say this though...  even without Irv, we still have Thielen, Jefferson, and Cook.  I'll put those 3 against any teams top 2 WRs and RB.  Our offense should be good again as long as those guys stay healthy and Kirk lives in a bubble up until kickoff.  Defense should be better... if it's a lot better, we're a playoff team again.

Just have to see how the chips fall.

Agree with all that....

I have to admit that anti-vax weirdo Kirk has taken the shine off of this upcoming season for me as well.  I always supported him as a QB that could win us a SB with most/all surrounding pieces but I now question his "martyr" mentality of him against the world playing a "game" which is a team sport.  QB is also the defacto leader and his individual mindset is worrisome for me.  Even if we start off like gangbusters I will have the Cousins Covid curse hanging over my team all season.

Same. Injuries happen. Etienne's out for the year, Dobbins is out for the year. Bakhtiari will miss half the season. We're certainly not the only team with a key injury. As long as we don't get a repeat of last year where only 4 of 22 starters played a full season, we should be fine. Preseason performance doesn't concern me either.

But you're right. This Cousins Covid thing will always be there...lurking. We can start 10-0 and it's going to be there. We can go to the Super Bowl and its going to be there. That really does take some of the excitement out of what should be a pretty good year.

Yeah there is definitely a dark cloud. There are still OL issues. I love Jefferson, Thielen and Cook but if the OL doesn't come together, there is still going to be issues. Plus Kirk is off right now, his preseason play showed that. We'll see what happens.
