Your MIA POTUS will be speaking to the nation today...

Heartbreaking situation, reminiscent of Saigon.

As Biden said, 4 us presidents have resided over thousands of our troops dying there. 20 years and billions of dollar spent.

Even Trump saw the writing on the wall and order the pullout of US presence during his last 1/4 in office. Negotiated this with the Taliban directly.

Here is what is alluding me. why couldn't they have sent UN in there to fill the vacuum?

Withdrawal of United States troops from Afghanistan (2020–2021)On February 29, 2020, the US and the Taliban signed a peace agreement titled the Agreement for Bringing Peace to Afghanistan,[2] with provisions including the withdrawal of all regular American and NATO troops from Afghanistan, a Taliban pledge to prevent al-Qaedafrom operating in areas under Taliban control, and talks between the Taliban and the government of the then Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.[3] The deal was supported by China, Pakistan, and Russia,[4] and unanimously endorsed by the United Nations Security Council.[5]

The Trump administration agreed to an initial reduction from 13,000 to 8,600 troops by July 2020, followed by a full withdrawal by May 1, 2021 if the Taliban kept its commitments.[6] The Biden administration, however, said the US would not begin withdrawing until May 1 and would complete the withdrawal before September 11.[7][8] On July 8, Biden specified a US withdrawal deadline of August 31.[9] The Department of Defense stated that the US would continue airstrikes against the Taliban during the withdrawal.[10

We should have never been there in the first place.  But what a disaster.

of course biden is blaming trump since it was under trump that the plans and agreements to leave were written,  and of course trump is deflecting blame saying that biden didnt follow the withdrawl plan that was in place with the agreement that was signed with the taliban... ( i mean if you cant trust middle eastern terrorist leaders to stick to their word... who can you trust? )

problem with biden blaming trumps accord... IIRC trumps accord called for the troops to have been out by may,  this is August,  so obviously there has been some deviation from the plan already,  what else beside the calendar hasnt been followed?

clay and buck show taking calls from veterans of afghan to call in and give their 2 cents on the way this shit is going down.  ( of course these are the two that took over for rush so you are going to have a specific slant to the dedicated listeners)  its hard listening to some of these soldiers calling in and asking what their sacrifices were for if this is the end result.  I cant help but think this is a lot of what vietnam soldiers felt 40 years ago.

Trump signed the peace deal.

he wanted to pull out even earlier.

His signature lead to the release of thousands of trained taliban fighters.

Why did the GOP scrub the Trump Taliban agremeent signing from their website?

per Newsweek: https://www.newsweek.com/gop-removes-webpage-praising-trumps-historic-peace-deal-taliban-1619605

They arent stupid, they know why

The US has no business nation building.   We should have decimated Al Qaeda and got out.  The Russians didn't fare very well in Afghanistan either.  I was glad that we were getting out of there.  What a terrible cost on the nation.  Having said that, it's an absolute embarrassment how this transition was carried out.

From what you posted PF, "The Department of Defense stated that the US would continue airstrikes against the Taliban during the withdrawal".  The Taliban advanced (in the open) without any resistance.  Some airstrikes would have certainly slowed the Taliban's progress (and killed off some of the fighters) while the US could make an orderly transition along with those that assisted us whose lives are now in jeopardy.  Shame on us for leaving those people there as well as many US citizens.

There shouldn't have been an American in sight when the Taliban rolled in.  Just makes us look weak.  Other countries will hesitate to trust us going forward as will valuable in Country allies.  This was easily preventable.  Biden ignored his Generals and now this mess is his...all his.

And yes...Biden and his Press Secretary should have been available during this crisis....not on vacation.  Imagine the outrage if Trump did the same.  The Dems would have been calling for his impeachment......again....and again.
