MMQB: What Zimmer Wants From F.M. Cousins
#71

Kirk Cousins' vaccination status is a nightmare for Mike ZimmerA lot of dreaded "D" words come to mind when thinking about Zimmer's reaction to what's happening.Let's take a shallow dive into a few key "D" words that help explain Zimmer's disdain:

*Dumb: Coaches hate dumb mistakes. Zimmer's point blank quote about Browning being available shows where he stands on this. "Jake's really smart. He's vaccinated. That helps to be the backup." Zimmer likely views not being vaccinated as a dumb (and preventable) decision, both in life and within the context of a football team.
*Disappointed: Let's just let another Zimmer quote do all the work here. "I am disappointed that this happened. I'm frustrated, not just with my football players who didn't get vaccinated, but I'm frustrated with everybody [who didn't]."
*Distraction: Every moment spent on this is a moment not spent on football. That drives coaches crazy. Sometimes their paranoia about distractions is unnecessary or even comically extreme. This is legitimate for multiple reasons, including the ability of this subject to divide teams.
*Disruption: This is different from a distraction. A disruption isn't just something that happens off the field and gets talked about. It's something that interrupts the ability to compete. If you don't have three quarterbacks, that impacts your ability to compete. It will set the Vikings back in camp.
*Dark: And if Cousins remains unvaccinated, he will be subject to league protocols anytime he is a close contact (or, of course, if he tests positive). The unknown drives coaches nuts because they are conditioned to imagine worst-case scenarios.
"Something like this happens a day before a game that has a chance to get you to the playoffs or something like that," Zimmer said.
And of course the cumulative weight of this season is heavy for Cousins, Zimmer and GM Rick Spielman. If it doesn't go well this year, there could be another D word for all of their tenures in Minnesota.

There may be some where a PSA might change some thinking, but I don't think that's a high % among those that haven't yet.

Pay em a $100?? I dont think that will do much either.

Only thing that'll work? Mandates and/or a variant with an extremely high fatality rate. In other words, they need to be scared to death of it or die from it.

That sounds ridiculously callous, but I believe it to be gospel truth.
It's going to be the health insurance companies that will turn the tide on this issue. If your vaccinated & get Covid, we'll pay your costs. But, if your unvaccinated & get Covid, your not covered.
^^^

This is EXACTLY SPOT ON!!

And where is the outrage of putting health care workers at risk again having to intubate these dumb-aszes and take care of em in ICU's?

Not to mention the medical resources we need to put against these people. Resources not going against car wreck victims or taking care of grandma having a heart attack and needing an icu bed.

Sheesh...

The health care workers are some of the most fierce resistors to getting the vaccine.  I love all the brainiacs here.  I really do...
Ok, so enlighten us dumb aszs'.

Post the quantified data that says health care workers as a whole are less inclined vs gen pop to be vaxed?

Boy, that was difficult.  Oh, and btw, the initial lag was much greater until they were either bribed or threatened into receiving the vaccine.

“The Vikings entered training camp with one of the lowest vaccination rates in the league, according to a source.” — ⁦@ChadGraff⁩ reporting that at least five projected starters are unvaccinated, a big reason why Mike Zimmer is so frustrated. https://theathletic.com/2747505/2021/0

Stupid mutherfuckers. One of the better rosters in years, and they put the season at risk out of sheer stupidity. JFC.

So Cousins will be paid $35mil this upcoming season.  Who here wouldn't take a COVID shot in the arm for that kind of money?  Apparently that's not enough for our "great leader" at QB.  I wonder how many unvaxed Vikings would follow KC, if he agreed to get a shot?

I believe each contract has a "conduct detrimental to the team clause". Considering how weak the player's union is, I wouldn't be too surprised if team start implementing it to get out from under some prohibitive contracts.

Literally every single health care worker I know has been vaccinated lolz. Waterboy is a troll poster, dont pay attention to the idiocy
Your huge sample size not withstanding, as a whole the medical community has been quite hesitant to receive the vaccine.  Seems many believe in building up their own immune systems via sources like Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Iron, and Melatonin.  Of course, it's much easier to go with the flow than it is to actually acquire some knowledge around these things.   If you had paid attention at any point to the discussions around the medical community, this wouldn't have come as such a shocker.  It's much easier to just trust in this beautiful government and society we have going on now.  You can laugh all you want, I'll guarantee you that I'm ten times as informed on the subject as you'll ever be.

But it is vitally important that our team give up all of their personal liberties just so we have a slightly higher likelihood of winning an extra game or two this year.  Good perspectives across the board here.  Do you wear a mask when you go swimming?

I do apologize in advance for posting facts to the board.  It looks like it may be against board rules.  lol
