Vikings actively shopping Hunter
#1
Per Goessling, trying to move him before Sundays deadline where he's due his 18 million roster bonus.

If their choice was to re sign Cousins and trade away Hunter...my faith in this new regime is completely shot to hell. That's as bad as it gets

Maybe my expectations were/are too high, color me unimpressed so far…

Yep, we have a tier 2 QB we pay tier 1 money, then we get rid of a tier 1 DE we have no replacement for?  Why did they bother to fire Spielman?  Like the other post said:

Well if we trade Hunter for pennies on the dollar then that is a huge FU by anyone's terms.  We can expect, or should expect hiccups with a new GM.  Then when the season starts we can, and should expect more than a few hiccups for our new HC calling plays for the first time.

If he is moved for crappy value we will start to hear the "defensive/apologists" rumblings that he wanted too much, he wanted to be traded, he didn't want to play in a 3-4 etc....

We got value (JJ) when Diggs kind of tweeted his way out of Minny with some sly shittalk of Cousins Smile

At least Griffin (Cowboys) made his peace with Kirk's weirdness for a one year contract Smile

Using those two as examples of "where their is smoke...at least sometimes their is a Fire".  Which also reminds me of all the little leaks with Zimmer the last 4+ years.  Suddenly, everyone is a believer that Zimmer is a psycho and not a good leader of a whole team...which, hmmm a few us have been saying for a couple years.  Unfortunately the few were right.

Hunter will be easy to replace,  hell I will be happy to sit on the sidelines every sunday for much less than hunter has made the last few years.  If the front office isnt convinced,  with all the medical information at their disposal,  that he is to much of a risk to extend a top dollar deal to,  then we should be happy that they arent just taking the easy route.  We are where we are now as a team/roster because of a front office that took the easy route.

In the seven games Danielle played in he still finished second on the team in sacks with six.  Wonnum led the team in sacks last season with 8 but he also played in all 17 games.
I don't agree All Pro talent is easily replaced.  If Danielle just wants out, then the Vikings can't do much with him.  But, if there's a way of keeping our best defensive player, I'd love to see him stay.  Our D sucked last year, and I can't see how having less talent on the roster next season will improve things.

Its no coincidence our defense has been noticeably worse the last two seasons without Hunter. He's an elite talent when he is on the field and still only 27. I don't think he'd be an easy replacement either but then again I don't know how affective he'll be in a 3-4 either. Could see a dip in production, but then again he might be a Jason Taylor type player in that scheme. To me he's worth the risk and hope we retain him.

you missed my point,  he has been mostly unable to take the field the last 2 years,  I am saying I would sit on the sidelines for millions.  He is a hell of a talent when healthy,  but that has not been the norm since he became a full time player.   you lock him up to the money he wants,  and his injury track continues,  his contract will hurt far more than anything we have seen from Cousins,  because Kirks 2nd biggest attribute is his availability.  I will take my 25 million a year and use it on players that actually play,  unless he wants to do a more bonus based deal.

Well, there will be injuries to several Viking players next season that will cause them to miss games.  So maybe none of them deserve to stay with the team?  B) I think DH had a couple unfortunate, unrelated injuries.  To me he's too young and talented to give up on.

were those players injured most of the last 2 seasons?  are those players asking for top dollar new contracts?  If you answered yes to both of these questions then I say no,  they dont deserve to stay with the team since the ramifications of them not staying healthy coupled with the enormity of the cap eating contract makes it very difficult to still compete.  to you those injuries are unrelated,  IMO theres a distinct possibility that despite his freak physical appearance that his body is being taken beyond his intended limits and it is making him more susceptible to injuries than somebody who isnt quite as maxed out.  I love his talent and potential,  but we cant be giving high risk players contracts that lock us into large guaranteed sums.
