EAGAN, Minn. — The Vikings have placed rookie kicker Riley Patterson on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List, the team announced Monday.
Patterson, an undrafted rookie out of Memphis, cannot practice until he is taken off the PUP list. Players on the Active/PUP list count against the 90-man roster limitation, and they can attend team meetings while on the list.
Patterson is one of two kickers currently on the Vikings roster. He is expected to compete with Greg Joseph for the kicking gig in Minnesota.
Patterson was not present for the final Organized Team Activity practice open to the media, and he was not in attendance for either of the Vikings mandatory minicamp practices in mid-June.
He made two of three field goals in a June 2 OTA practice, hitting from 33 and 44 yards. Patterson missed his 51-yard try wide right.
Patterson was a solid kicker in college at Memphis, where he appeared in 51 career games.
He scored 432 total points (the second-most in school history), making 64 of 82 field goals with a long of 56 yards.
