I'm really not big on the "What ifs" on how the draft turned out whether we could of traded up or not. We weren't able to do so and didn't really have a chance at Fields or Slater, but I'm happy the Vikings got 2 offensive linemen, a quarterback and depth players that were solely missed on the current roster.

At the bold, I think this was the better route. You got a top third QB who has been exceptional (best in the league) from a clean pocket. Why not try to give him a clean pocket more often?
Drafting Fields would be exciting. And scary. And it would cause so much fan and media chaos and nonsense. Vikings were wise to avoid that with a top QB already on board. T he lowball trade offer was probably them publicly showing interest in a QB and avoiding it at the same time.
The offensive weapons are top level. Just saw where the top WR duo (according to PFF grade) was ours. 2nd was the Bills. In other words, Diggs. So that says a lot right there. I think the Falcons and Bucs were up there. Now, how many of those top duos have a back like Cook? There can't be a better QB-RB-WR-WR combo in the NFL.

As far as giving Chicago kudos for going back to the well, that isn't the big issue, but rather giving up future picks for that next great QB. They continue to do that and the rest of the team suffers and as was stated above, a high draft pick on a crappy team usually means pushing him into the savior role way too soon. Good luck with that.

Its interesting. It also shows you how consistently underrated Kirk Cousins is by everyone, Viking's fans included.
This might be me underrating Kirk again per your point, but that PFF list doesn't give me the takeaway that fans are underrating Kirk at all. Per that list Kirk is the #11 QB with #1 weapons. I'd say that's about right where most reasonable fans perceive him to be. Whether fans are content with that level of play is another matter.

But it's all wrapped up in everything else. Supporting cast, OL, salary, etc.
I'm content with a #11 QB if he has #1 weapons around him and an OL that can protect him. That kind of combination, with a, say, top third defense, should be enough to win a Super Bowl. I don't think that's a QB you look to replace. For example, it's higher than Stafford, Murray, Lamar, Herbert, Ryan.
Unless of course what you're paying him is out of line with that. And many would argue that it is. It's close.
I think our great weapons help him and our terrible offensive line hurts him. If only we knew where he would rank with better protection. Well, we kinda have a clue: there isn't a higher graded QB in the NFL the last two years from a clean pocket. In other words, when he gets protection, there's none better. My kingdom and all my riches to give him that.

I think the target was Slater because that is a low ball offer for Fields. We'll see what happens with the Bears. If we have the #11 qb with improved OL and defense, hopefully things will improve. Of course there are still going to be growing pains with the OL. Hoping the defense gets their heads out and the offense improves.
