This is probably not even a story, since he'll probably be at mandatory mini-camp. But if there's something to this, it could be a catch-22. Hunter won't attend camps until he has a new contract; Vikings won't give him a new contract until he proves 100% healthy.

Either way, if Hunter's not starting at DE against the Bengals, I'll eat my cat.

By drafting Mond in the 3rd round, the Vikings now have a potential Cousins off ramp in '23 and should have close to $100M in cap space that year to dump a shit ton of Hunter's salary onto.

Problem is (the good kind), is that I sorta think Cousins is going to have a very, very good season. And if he does, an extension is probably more likely than a transfer of power. This year will tell us a lot.

He didn't play last year.  So if he doesn't play this year, we're no worse off. I think this is 90% click bait and that he'll be back for minicamp. But if it turns out he does want to whine about his contract after getting paid millions last year for nothing, screw him and the borrowed camel from Adrian Peterson that he rode in on.

Part of me wonders if he and the Vikings don't have some kind of agreement where a renegotiated deal is "done", but they are waiting until Rudy's money comes off the cap here shortly.

Would make sense that his absence is due to him wanting to avoid injury right before a new deal is announced.

To put a holdout in perspective, I’ve been a fan since 1973. Foreman, Yary, Ed White, Eller, A. Carter, Lowdermilk, Browner, Doleman, Zimmerman and others have held out. In the immortal words of Mike Lynn, “What are they going to do, drive a truck”?
