This feels like the likely direction to me. Zimmer is not going to get caught with his pants down on defense again
they used FA to fix his D,  its time to focus back on the O.

I don't disagree but even with our own line problems last season we were a top rated offense. I think a pass rusher makes a lot of sense and using our plethora of draft picks to move back up into a deep o line crop also makes sense. 14 days to go...
they added a pass rusher in Tomlinson and Hunter over what they fielded last year.   they are now on the hook for another 35 million in cousins for 2022,  they damn well not go cheap on the protection.   If this team is truly all in on cousins,  which they better be since they committed to his big pay day next year,  then they need to quit fucking around with the OL ( and that is what playing musical chairs would be )  and settle in with players in the positions they have played and draft/sign/trade for players to fill the remaining openings.

where is a year 1 guys going to be most likely to get the most playing time and offer long term cap savings?  I have my doubts that a year one DLman gets on the field in Zimmers D much.  Really none have done so to date,  however our 3 returning OL starters all played significantly in their rookie seasons on the OL and with openings at both LT and LG ( assuming Cole isnt a lock there, and praying Dozier isnt even a consideration ) then OL seems to make the most sense for both the now and the future,  unless the team isnt going to pay Hunter his demands then that changes everything.
I'm with you, I just don't believe Zim is going to go into the season short handed on defense after last year's debacle. Say you add Jaelen Phillips, that gives you a rush package of Hunter, Phillips, Tomlinson and DJ Wonnum...which could be elite, and you have to beat Aaron Rodgers to win the division.

That and the fact that we can get starting guards through the second and third round leads me to believe that's the direction we go in
I would rather they add an OT early to take Reiffs spot and not rely on Hill or the notion that we can move Oneill and rely on Udoh,  a guy that didnt sniff playing time last year that I can recall.
And again, Cleveland was drafted as our LT of the future. Not sure why that still wouldn't be in play...
maybe that he has gotten zero work at LT in the last year?  zero work on the left side of the line despite the glaring weakness at LG last year?  and I am tired as shit of the musical chairs with our OL,  they have been doing it for over a decade and with almost 100% shit results.
Yes but that doesn't mean he isn't capable being that LT was his college position. To me if we don't go offensive line in the first round, it would make most sense to slide Cleveland to LT and fill the guard spots with either Cole, Udoh, or with draft picks.
If they don't find a LT in the draft the more likely scenario is they either sign one (Okung or Villinueva) or shift O'Neil over to the left side and then let Hill, Udoh, and Cleveland compete at RT.
O'Neill - Cole - Bradbury - Cleveland - Udoh

Best option: Add Zeus Jr and acquire a guy like Rousseau.
Next best option: Add Darrisaw and Robinson
Next best option: Add AVT, move Cleveland and add a Cleveland
Least desirable: Movie O'Neill
I'll bet @Skodin likes the Best Option. I think I have seen him say Zeus at 14 for #27 maybe 30 times haha

Agree with your 1st option. Replace Rousseau with Oweh, Ojulari or Phillips. I've soured a bit on the Frenchman.
Love option 2. Love Robinson, but I want my edge higher than Robinson will go. So Basham or Turner.
Option 3, that works too, but give me Radunz or Brady Christensen over Cleveland. Both will be guards in the NFL. Christensen ran 4.89 forty. A little older, but he's a day one starter you can maybe get in the 3rd round.
I think people are being too cautious about moving O'Neill. Guy moved from RT to LT his final year at Pitt and didn't miss a beat. He can do it again. If'n we need him to.

I would take it off the wall now. The odds of us going LT with our first pick is well under 50%.

Why do you believe that???

Well under is a pretty strong stance to take.

Not if you do the math. How many positions are there? Roughly 11 if you combine centers and guard into IOLs and NTs and 3Ts into IDLs, all LBs the same. We can probably eliminate CB, S, LB, IDL, TE, WR and QB. Leaving IOL, OT, and Edge. Just spit ballin' here but I'd put those odds around...

LT: 30%
Edge: 30%
IOL: 20%
All others combined: 20%

Bottom line is I still think it's a dead heat between OL and Edge.

I cant argue with that much, other than tweak %'s a bit, but whats the fun in that.

Even at 14, there are so many variations because of the 9 teams in front of us who wont get a shot at a QB.

Most assuredly there will be 2 of those 9 who will reach or screw it up completely. Which means good things for us.

I think if there is a good Edge vs LT there? I think the odds are 65/35 LT. And I readily admit that is another way of looking at it all together.

Some things I think I think...

I no longer think Ja'Marr Chase is the best receiver in this class. Nor is it Waddle or Smith. But you could've seen him play by getting off at the West Bank or East Bank light rail station. Am I crazy? If Waddle falls to 14 will the Ravens want to move up and grab him? Give us our LTOTF for our trouble? We slide to 27 and take a more complete receiver in Bateman? Yes...yes, I think I like that.

I'm almost ready to put Shi Smith among my top 8-ish receivers, but that would be crazy. I definitely like him more than any of the other 2nd and 3rd tier receivers. Kadarius Toney would be even higher if he didn't like to carry around AR-15s.

There is a ridiculous amount of edge rushers between 20 and 60. One of the guys I hadn't really watched much before but is one of my guys now is Boogie Basham. Thick, strong, relentless and 4.5? Give him 34 inch arms and he's a top 20 pick.
I am going to call you crazy for not thinking Chase is the best receiver in the draft class  :p

I'll double down and call him the best WR prospect in the last decade. Sammy Watkins and Amari Cooper would come close, but Chase is something else in my mind. But we're talking as a prospect here, we'll see what the end result ends up being. I'm with you on Shi Smith though, he's going to play in the NFL for a long time. So maybe we're both crazy since we're both calling the crazier take sane?

I am very very intrigued by the pass rusher class as a whole. When will the first one come off the board and who will it be? The best talent is Phillips, but the medicals. Paye is the best all-around guy but lacks the upside of Oweh and there isn't a massive drop-off to Basham, Ossai, etc.. Ultimately I wonder if all of the pass rushers get pushed down the board since teams will think they can get a similar talent in round 2.
Just a week ago I called Chase the best player in this draft. Then I spent more time watching most of the top guys waiting for someone to jump off the tape. Three players did that: Bateman, Kadarius Toney and Shi Smith.

More to come...
