It's really interesting to me that a topic about the George Floyd trial turns political and the last handful of posts are about predicting riots and discussing past riots. Not the facts of the case. Heck even some of the talk about the case are predictions Chauvin walks or people saying it doesn't matter what the evidence shows, the jurors will vote guilty to avoid rioting... I mean really?
I watched the video when this first happened. I'm still disgusted by the lack of empathy Chauvin had for a man pinned under his knee for 9 minutes. Regardless of what the defense puts out there or toxicology reports show, the cop did nothing to help him even after he was not moving for 3 minutes. Even if you don't believe this is racially motivated or don't believe he intended to murder Floyd, his actions directly led to his death. Chauvin could have gotten off of him at any time, sat him up, put him in the cop car, given him medical attention until the paramedics showed up... but he just disregarded a human's life and continued to kneel on the dude's neck.
That should appall anyone regardless of his skin color, criminal history, past (or present) drug use. Police officers are employed to protect and serve. I didn't see any protecting or serving in this particular case (and there was plenty of uninterrupted video evidence from witness cell phones, street cams, etc. so it's definitely not a situation of we have 5 secs of video with no context). Chauvin let him die right there on the street despite Floyd's pleadings and the crowd that witnessed it pleading for him to help him.
If that doesn't disturb you, I got nothing else to say here.
It's a discussion group and discussions meander... What happens in the trial aftermath is a relevant topic and we'll find out for real soon enough. As a recently retired individual, I have been able to watch live streaming of the case. The discussion and videos are very emotionally draining. Should never have happened. The prosecution has built a significant pile of evidence, no way Chauvin walks away scot free. The accused has a right to a defense, I'm looking forward to hearing their side.

Oh boo F'ing hoo. This is a freaking message board. Not Disney. Its ok to not get along. Its ok to disagree. Its ok to poke fun at things from time to time. This thread doesn't need to be some sanitized propaganda bullshit machine where we all agree on everything and sing kumbaya in unison. If we are all going to agree on everything, all the time, why even have a message board?
This is what the medical examiner's report said:
Baker's autopsy report from
May 2020 found that Floyd died of "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating
law enforcement subdual, restraint and neck compression." Baker's
autopsy listed "other significant conditions" including
"arteriosclerotic and hypertensive heart disease; fentanyl intoxication;
[and] recent methamphetamine use."
When asked what he believed
caused Floyd's death, he pointed to what he called "severe underlying
heart disease" and said Floyd's heart already would require more oxygen
than normal. He said in the context of an altercation or restraint,
adrenaline would ask the heart to beat faster and the heart would
require more oxygen. He said the law enforcement subdual, restraint, and
neck compression "was just more than Mr. Floyd could take by virtue of
those heart conditions."
Sure looks to me like the police brutality played a part but underlying health conditions and recent drug use is what put him in the position to have died in the first place. Floyd was saying he couldn't breath long before Chauvin's knee ever touched him. If Floyd didn't want to be subdued by the police maybe just maybe he should have stayed in the cop car they originally put him in instead of darting through it. At that point Floyd was resisting arrest and in my mind justifiable restraint. I'll wholeheartedly agree that restraint for to long was used.
I've also said that given past police brutality cases that the cops generally get off. I think in this case that Chauvin will largely get off but they'll probably give him a year or two sentence so everyone can give each other high fives and say "justice was done". Then the thread transpired into what will almost certainly be violence. The jury could put him away for 20 years but that wont be enough depending on who you asked.
Using the line of reasoning found on this thread, I will not be surprised to hear that Daunte Wright died because his car crashed into another car not because he was shot.
Also in "their" line of reasoning the officer was not not at fault because the officer mistakenly pulled a gun instead of the taser that was intended.
To conclude, Daunte was "justifiably" shot because he was resisting arrest and tried getting back in his car so it is his fault.
The officer went above and beyond announcing an intent to taser him and killing him is a not an issue given Daunte had an outstanding warrant.
The length some people would go to is just mind boggling.

Poor poor Daunte tried running from the police because he had a warrant out for his arrest. Had he not tried re-entering his car to run from law enforcement he would have never been in that situation to begin with.
We had a mother and 2 children killed by some asshat who ran from police and crashed through an intersection less then a 1/4 mile from where I work. I wish the cops would have shot him before he ran. I wish the cops would have shot him while running. I wish there would have been an "accidental discharge" several times into the piece of shit at the scene who killed those innocent kids and their mom. There is a husband and a infant left behind because someone ran from a warrant here. Fuck those who think they can outrun the police because they saw it on a video game or movie.
So you're damn right I don't have an issue.
Question, Will there be 10 televised funerals and a golden coffin for Daunte?

You are exactly right.
Mistakes were likely made, a man is dead by the hand of a police officer. Tensions are a bit high right now. I highly doubt she went to work planning on shooting some random guy. People try to get back into their car for 2 reasons. Weapon or flee. Neither is safe for the officers or anyone around them.
No way you can ignore that this guy resisted arrest and fled.

At the bold: Stupidity + childishness provides an interesting display of shallow thinking. It's a joy to see it on display free of charge.

So are you saying that neither Floyd nor dauntes actions had a hand in their own deaths ?

Nope. You’re just wrong. Thats how it goes when you disagree with liberals. They get to label people however they’d like and youre just an ignorant hillbilly for not agreeing.

Youre welcome to choose your heros. I’ll pick ones who dont hold pregnant women at gun point while they burglarize them.

You should stop. I have not seen a single person on this board call George Floyd a hero other than in accusatory posts. He's not a hero. But, he was a human being. And so was Daunte Wright.
