I heard a rumor that Cleveland would be involved with a trade for Brown, so we would lose our promising young cheap G/T, and take on a 25 million a year guy? I liked the idea of Brown at LT for the next 5+ years, but at at that kind of money, why did they release Reiff?
Because Brown is better. And 7 years younger. Reiff has never been to a pro bowl. Brown has been in the league three years and been to two. Plus, right now he's playing on a rookie contract.

Browns just drafted a tackle in the first and gave a FA a big bag of money in FA last year. They aren't in on Brown.

I sincerely hope we don't draft Ben Cleveland.

but, is the team in the position to hand out a 20+ million a year to Brown, and likely a similar deal to ONeill? even with a new higher cap coming, will $45 million fit for only 2 OL, especially when the QB will be wanting about that by himself most likely.

Is anyone? 49ers paying Jimmy G a lot. Packers paying both Bakhtiari and Rodgers. Course Packers had to sacrifice Linsley so there's a give and take. We'll see how it shakes out. But I'd rather be playing near the cap edge than the game you play when you have $60M in cap space and are signing blue-hairs like Fitzmagic or Dalton because the QB you drafted, like Trubby or Haskins, turned out to be a bust.
Keep in mind that the Vikings have zero dollars devoted to QB in 2023. 2021 will have a lot to say about what happens there. Vikings could feasibly keep playing this 2 and 3-year extension game with Cousins, keeping his cap hits relatively low. But again, that really depends on how he plays in 2021 with what should be a better OL.
The NEW, highest paid Olineman, in NFL history, turns 33 years old July 19.
Not a deal I would want RS to do.

Eh. Jason Peters played effectively into his late 30s.

True. But, he hung on for a number of years and played at a high level. Definitely a risk.
