I like this signing too! Hopefully he works out for us as well as another NYG DT did (Linval). Good job Vikings and also good job for not doing anything insane, like giving Nelly Agholor $26 mil. LOL

I think Tomlinson will be an every down DT.  He looks to be way more than a typical 2 down run stuffer.  I'd bet he's what Zim was hoping Jaleel Johnson was going to be.  Pretty good vid here:

Watching his highlights, two things made me smile

-Has not missed time for injury

_"rag dolled the center" vs the cowboys, love hearing that about other teams OL.  Hope he can keep them talking that way.

Immediately reminded me of signing Linval Joseph - both were higher picks by the Giants who played well there but not exceptionally. Hope Tomlinson excels here as Joseph did. I like him more than Pierce TBH.

This was a great signing to solidify the middle of the defense.  Typical Vikings FA signing, productive player in his prime looking for a 2nd contract...  didn't overpay like other teams are doing.

He should create a lot more pressure than Shamar at 3T and has the size and strength to stay on the field on 3rd downs when we pull Pierce in obvious passing situations.  This frees us up to bring back a versatile pass rusher like Odenigbo who can slide inside on passing downs or maybe take a guy like Rousseau who can rush inside and out.

BOOM
I couldn't agree more.  You need to get good players at good prices, and that seems to be what happened here.  It is big because now you don't have to reach at a position where you had a huge need, and there's not a lot of draft talent.  I'm not sure what we're looking at giving Anthony Harris, but would rather spend it on a good CB or some fortification on the OL. if it's too much.  I think we can find a decent safety for a lot less money than Anthony, who would do similar things with our revamped D Line.

This is a much bigger spend at 3T than I thought the Vikings would be willing to make. Like most, I guessed they wanted more of a pass rushing specialist at 3T, but when you think about it, the last two 3Ts we've signed were strong run stoppers (Richardson, Stephen). Think Zimmer wants to stop the run? Tomlinson and Pierce should be one powerful duo.

Tomlinson offers a lot more in terms of pass rush than Stephen ever did. He actually graded higher against the pass than the run last year. And he's a young, developing player with well-documented high character. Good culture fit for Vikings.

Dalvin Tomlinson actually posted a higher pass rush grade last season than run block

Run Block: 70.3
Pass Rush: 74.6

Both of those numbers are better than Bears star Akiem Hicks

I'll use this opportunity to mention my general dislike of PFF.

Paired with Pierce should make for a decent interior upgrade from last year's mess.  We had luck with another Giant DT when we signed Linval years ago, let's hope this pans out as well as that did.

I think giving up 450 rushing yards against the Bears and Saints got seered into someone's gray matter.
