This One Just Won't Die

Perfect world, he gets paid here. He likes it here, playing for Zim and Andre. But yeah, he's highly thought of across the league, if they don't want to pay up.

He likes playing for Dre? Go figure.

Mack in the 4 yrs before getting traded
Age: 26
Sacks: 40.5
TFLs: 68
Tackles: 304
Snaps: 3873

 Hunter's last 4 years
Age: 26
Sacks: 48.5
TFLs: 59
Tackles: 243
Snaps: 3130

*hunter played less, and mainly on later downs (explains tackles/TFL numbers)

Danielle Hunter would get a Khalil Mack type return... 2 firsts, 1 third, and 1 day three pick.

Would I take those picks? Yes. Do I want to lose a top 5 player that’s only 26 when we can be competitive? No.

Two 1s, a 3rd, and a Day 3?

Yeah, I'd do that for an apparently disgruntled guy coming off neck surgery. Sign me up.

stop the madness, play and get paid or sit and pound shit. I wonder what his cap exception would be of he sat?  Maybe that is why we are looking DE as our top priority.

Only thing i could see remotely justified is that the team Dr’s wrongly told him he could play and Z and Rick pushed him to play. Im assuming the 2nd opinion was actually a 3rd opinion

The Bears also received a 2nd and a 5th from Oakland, but I agree - 2 firsts and a day 2 pick would be the least I would accept. Would obviously prefer dipping into the Dolphins, Jets or Jags cache of picks.

And he's highly thought of around the league? Might have something to do with being the youngest player in NFL history to reach 50 sacks.

One more thing, this is not about the Vikings "wanting to pay up." They've never had any trouble keeping (read: paying) the players they draft. What's more, extending Hunter would actually help them in terms of the cap. I don't care if they make him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, the first year of an extension will be a cap savings from the $17M hit he has now. So it's not about "want to."

The issue is that the Vikings probably can't do anything until they know more about the injury. Hunter's camp has to know that. There might also be some intrigue as trade offers come in. Everyone has his price...and for Hunter it would be damn high. I tend to think we're not going to have a resolution to this until training camp.

Maybe the team was pissed that he had the surgery but he had to do what was best for him long-term.

Rams are giving LB Leonard Floyd a four-year, $64 million deal, per source.

Package him with Kirk for DeShaun Watson, I'll celebrate.

Only way I’d do that deal is if the Vikings moved up to get a QB, or even better— could swing a Watson deal. No way I’d give up Hunter for a (probably) rookie CB, a rookie OG, and a 3rd. Picks sound great on paper but of the 4 first round CBs we’ve taken recently, a prime Rhodes is the only one you’d even consider in a Hunter deal. And for every Brian ONeill (2nd) we’ve drafted there’s a Matt Kalil.

I just really hope the Vikings can work it out with Hunter. Kobe wanted to be traded from the Lakers at one point. They worked it out and it’s all a footnote on his career. I’d love to see Hunter go into the HOF as a Viking someday.

EDIT- Of our last 15 first round picks, 4 are guys you’d consider trading Hunter for: AD, Harry, Rhodes, JJ. So that’s about 25%. 75% of the time you’re getting guys who even at a 2-for-1, you’re taking a bath.

The Raiders traded Mack away for a good RB and a bad CB. I don’t want that to be us.

if this has any legs at all as far as coming from Hunters camp,  that would be setting off huge red flags for me in terms of how healthy he is going to be coming back.  They have to know how stupid it sounds for a player who just missed a complete season due to injury who is also under contract for several more years to be making contract noise.
Maybe he is trying to hit the lottery with an extension. Or maybe it has nothing to do with the contract. Perhaps he doesn't want to play for the Vikings, like Diggs.
