Rudy released
#21
I've been a Rudy fan since he was a Rook.  He's gone but not forgotten - right up there with Steve Jordan in Viking lore.  Great career and thanks for all you've done as a Viking![Image: dy9ewrrhswaaynvzyc83]

To me its amazing all these one handed TDs. Hell I can barely catch a football with both hands lol.

RED ZONE RELIABLEKyle Rudolph ranks second to Steve Jordan for receptions (453 to 498) and receiving yards (4,488 to 6,307) by a Vikings tight end. But Rudolph caught 20 more touchdown passes than Jordan; in that category, Rudolph trails only four other Vikings all-time.
Cris Carter 110
Randy Moss 92
Anthony Carter 52
Sammy White 50
Kyle Rudolph 48

Nope, not a YAC guy but highly effective. Kinda in the Kleinsasser mold but more athletic (?) and a better pass catcher. Vikings have loved their big, lumbering guys over the years and also the Jordans and ISJ's.
I think ISJ is going to be a terrific player for us.
It was pretty evident Rudie wasn't happy with his role here anymore. The contract wasn't going to work on-going. I hope he gets a ring somewhere.

Vikes did him a solid here. Could've saved about $3M more by waiting until after June 1st, but it would've hurt Rudy's chances of signing with someone else.
That they did...

If being a solid owner was enough to get you a Lombardi? The Wilfs would have one by now.

I think it bodes well for keeping Rieff.
I don't know. That could still go either way. I don't think they'll keep him at his current cap hit, so either a release, trade or a short extension. Would prefer the latter.

I would expect to hear about the release of Bailey and Stephen soon. As well as an extension for Harry and salary-to-bonus conversions for Thielen and Kendricks. Vikings can get a good $12M-$16M under the cap with a few fairly painless moves.

yeah i could see seattle or tampa or KC signing him.

Rudy is a great person. How could the catch to again roast Payton and the Aints not be a favorite viking memory, and i been watching since 73.

It was fantastic to have that position at least "solid" for a decade. We picked a few TEs in later rounds but it never needed to be a priority. I sure hope Smith and/or Conklin make TE just as solid.

Wonder where Rudolph will play this year?

Early rumblings say he goes to Buffalo with Diggs.
