They clarified that the jaws of life were not used to extract him. Hopefully he is in much better shape than the amount of coverage would indicate. The coverage is over the top.

As is typically the case in most anything deemed news worthy. 

The jaws of life makes things sound way more serious than they often are.  We use them on a lot of accidents where there is side damage and the door is simply unable to be opened normally.  They do save lives,  but their use is certainly no indicator of the severity of the accident or the potential condition of the occupants.

Just saw an update: compound fracture and broken ankle.  Now recovering after a long operation to right leg.  Other leg also injured but they didn't mention surgery on that one.
