I mean he’s not entirely incorrect.  He probably should have learned from Trump and shut his damn mouth though.

But that doesnt absolve people from taking care of themselves. People need to plan to survive when crazy stuff happens. We’re in the middle of the same storm. Power was out. we’ve been helpping neighbors and offering warmth, food and a place to crash if they need.

We have another round tonight. If it comes as snow we’ll be ok. If it comes as freezing rain we’re screwed.  It will be north of a week if it comes asfreezing rain for power to come on.

Ive got enough K1, LP and gasoline to go a long long time so we’ll be ok.
Also, we have good people willing to help each other out.  Lent out our generator after we got power back.  Others offered to us if we hadn't had one.

I'm happy to hear you did that. I asked my brother in law in Dallas if they were OK and he responded cheerfully that they were. Years ago he caught the camping bug from me and has since spent about $20K on high end camping equipment. Sent pics of all the kids in their goose down bags and their $1,000 insulated tents. He's definitely among the strong and loved what the mayor said.
Dang, that is some serious coin on camping equipment.  That isn't an option for everyone of course, but to everyone that has the latest iPhone, but doesn't have a bit of food reserves, or emergency clothing, they have made a choice.  It just wasn't a good one.

I feel for them and am for helping them through this tough time, but there is something to the grasshopper and ant parable.
Many seem so willing to forgive power companies for their lack of preparation for the unlikely event of a hundred year cold snap, but not so poor folks, who were equally blindsided.

I saw on Fox once that poor folks even have refrigerators and microwaves. Disgusting.

Its a natural disaster. Now even those are politicized. Blame game, always the same: sides never change.

Who cares what Fox sez.

And no, I don't forgive the power companies.  They claim it is unprecedented, all while citing the precedent of 1940.  Gotta have some preparations for this type of event.  It does happen.

The cultural differences across the states is pretty vast as well...There is no way in hell MN would have sued Pennsylvania in 2020 or an elected, public official would go on record lacking empathy to this degree.

That said, MN is far from perfect, thats for sure. Our Mpls Mayor wont be getting my vote next go and this is a difficult state to live in if you are a person of color.

I love my southern co-workers, some of my best buddies over the years. FL, TX, AR, GA. So I try not to paint anywhere with too broad of a brush.

Yabbut there's way more to this than a cold snap. This has a lot to do with Texas refusing to be on the federal power grid, choosing profits over winterization, etc. So while you can't blame the cold on politics--we can leave climate change for another time--the misery being experienced by millions of Texans right now has very much to do with politics.
