Good products!

Same thing happened to me over the holidays, but with Sonos.
LOL.....Yeah  us too.... We bought a "Play five".....then went and bought three more.

SONOS is friggin' great
tell me more about your setup. Was this an upgrade from some sonos ones, or your first buy?
actually an interesting story...

I went in to buy a BOSE system for outside, and there was this guy setting up the SONOS in Best Buy.  I asked him where the BOSE outside speakers were, and he said,
Before you buy a BOSE, can I show you something?

Usually I dont bite, but I had some time to kill so I said, “yeah, sure”

He whips out his cell phone and asks what I want to hear....he points to a speaker
across the room...and BOOM....its off and running....he tells me how its wireless, without the “wireless delays” between speakers.   He controlled one speaker, then two, then three....varied the volume on each from his phone....

then he said...watch this.....on two speakers he played “crashing waves”  and on another “hawaiian music”...

I said “Holy Shit.....are you gonna be here a while? I need my wife to see this”

Long story short we got home with our new “play five”, set it up, then the next day went and bought THREE more and a bridge.

use them inside and take them outside for partys.

Nice!
I first experienced Sonos this past summer when staying at a relative's home in Sonoma, CA, and I was blown away too. I suppose I should've known something like this existed nowadays, because why wouldn't it, but I had no idea.
So of course I started researching and same as you, this Fall I started with a Five. Plugged my record player into it and was impressed. But then I needed that sound all over the house.
A month later Santa brought us three Ones and a Move. So now we have good coverage throughout the house and the Move as-needed for the deck.
I would've gotten a Beam soundbar too but I really want the Arc so I held off. And then I want the Sub... And another Five... And paired Ones everywhere... So yeah this journey is just getting started haha.
But my wife loves it too because it's so easy to play stuff from her iphone. And with a baby who gets bored easily, we're moving around room to room a lot wherever he decides to crawl off to. Super nice being able to bring our music with us.
Didn't mean to derail the thread, it's just very similar to how Apple hooks you with one product and then you fall down the rabbit hole. At least it's been that way for me.

EDIT- For anyone wondering WTH we're talking about, Sonos sells speakers and TV soundbars that you put in each room (or outdoors) of your home. You can play phone/TV audio over WiFi to any-or-all of the speakers.

Perfect.  Love the story.  Can you compare how the Play 5's sound to the SL's?  I want louder sound and use my SL's a surround in the back of the room.  My arc is slick and connects via a HDMI arc for Dolby sound.
Now comparing the SONOS One SL  to the Apple Homepod.  I have to say, the homepods are actually better in my mind.  We have a pair set on each night stand around our bed, with the sonos in the living room/dining room.

My sonos experience has been great, but the One SL's sound wise are just "good".  I am thinking of adding a play 5 (or two) and pairing that with my ARC for more sound.  So any thoughts you have on the Play five compared to the Sl's would be helpful.  Also any comments on a woofer would be nice, still in the market for this as well.

BTW if anyone is in the market for SONOS products, go to the Reddit subforum, there are usually guys there with discount codes that work.  I bought my whole setup with 20% off and I only paid $40 for the code.
BUT to bring it back to a Mac conversation, long time Mac addict here, I
look down on those with green text bubbles Tongue.  Just got the AirPods
MAX, they are better than the original best wireless noise cancelling
Sony MDX1000's.  The AirPods Max are impressive.

The Five is a lot louder and sounds better than the One. For music, it's just a lot better at handling mids and bass.
However, I'm not sure hooking Fives up to the Arc is worth it (versus Ones/One SLs). My understanding is if you group speakers with the Arc, regardless which ones, they'll default to the surround sound profile of just being rear 5.1/7.1 speakers. So you'd be nerfing the Fives. You'd have to get clarification on that but I think if you're planning on listening to music, you're better off getting two Fives and pairing those, but keeping the Arc and the Ones separate.
Would be great if you could group 2 Fives with the Arc and when music is playing then it blasts out of the 2 Fives. Unfortunately I don't think that's how it works, yet. Future update could change that though.
EDIT- That's good to know about the Airpods Max. We have Airpods Pros and have been happy with them.

Damn, I was afraid you were going to say that about the Fives.  Both that they sound better and sadly they don't hook up with the Arc.
Would anyone like to buy a set of One SLs with an Arc??? Smile

Ah! Sonos conversation!! I bought the Sonos 5 the day the new version came out. I don’t know anyone with any Sonos products. Mind if I geek out?

I was going to get either the HomePod or the giant Google Max (that has already bombed out), when I heard a demo of the old 5. I knew I had to save up for that. I usually receive Best Buy gift cards as gifts from my folks or the in-laws. I saved up for a year and had a little more than extra. Well then BB let me know that the new Sonos 5 would be out sometime later in the year, so I had to wait again. I pre-ordered when they were announced. Waited in line outside for a long time when they had limited customers in the store, and got it the day it came in. It rings up $40 cheaper and BB guy tells me that he has never seen it before but there was some sort of product release deal. So, then I started with some left over gift cards and have accumulated more. I’m starting to plan what I do next.

I love the 5. It sounds amazing, and I love the easy control of selecting music from all different platforms. I hadn’t had Spotify before, but I have that now, and I can basically play anything by just searching in the Sonos app. Nothing better than chilling in my basement, drink in hand, and shooting some darts while listening to the Sonos.

Was thinking of getting the Move, but I am now leaning toward getting another 5 to pair. Does it make it that much different? Kind of debating saving up for when the PlayStation 5 is routinely available or getting another Sonos 5 or Move.

Wow, everyone raving about Sonos. Guess I'll have to give it a try. I'm not messing with my system in the living room, but Sonos might make sense for the basement.

@sv44 the Move is great for us to bring outside when we want to (they even sell a little wall hook you can install), and lately since I’ve been doing lots of painting and projects around the house. So I bring that thing with me in bathrooms and such without speakers. That said I’ve heard pairing two Fives is awesome. Hopefully someday...

@maroon it really is nice. Definitely can’t compete with a dedicated movie room/music room with high end tower speakers, AVR, the works, but it’s not trying to. Plus, should you ever want to you could get a Sonos Port or Amp, which would connect your existing AV setup into the Sonos ecosystem. Sadly neither option is cheap.
