Have the Vikings ever aggressively moved up in the first two rounds to draft a QB they love and have conviction? I don't think so. This might have to be the first time and with no second rounder it will have to be with our first most likely...IMO

I don't expect that to happen. I think I'd pass out in shock.

Yes, 2014. They dealt a 2nd and 4th to move up to draft Teddy

Yea I didn't remember that we moved up for him. At the time I liked the pick to be honest. I hated the Ponder pick and said so at the time and all the time.
I am going to start looking at all the college QB's that we have a chance for...when I say chance I mean even if we have to give up a lot to move up. I think we are going to be picking middle of the pack so can we get into that Top 5-8 range without pulling Ricky/Hershel oouch!

Nope, but if we want one of the top 4 (Trev, Fields, Wilson, Lance), we'll likely have to move into the top 10. I'm guessing the Vikings end up with a pick somewhere between 15 and 20. Let's just say 20.
To move from 20 to, say, 8, it would definitely require our 1st next year, plus one or two of our middle round picks this year. We should get a 3rd for Waynes, giving us 6 picks in rounds 3 and 4, so losing a couple of those won't hurt, but the 1st next year will.
But if that's what it takes...

Yep and outside of those 4 I think there is a significant drop off to the next tier of QB's. Maybe Trask is the real deal? I really do not like Kellen Mond but Mac Jones is starting to become more and more intriguing to me. Sure the talent is there at every position for him on offense, but that dude is posting some serious numbers

The issue is the team has NOTHING in the pipeline QB-wise. And this upcoming Draft won't help as Minnesota will probably be picking mid-round in the first and have no 2nd. I don't understand how the team is going to allow Cousins to get paid what he's supposed to get paid on the last year of his contract, it's monstrous.
Most glaring issue of Spielman's career. He has never had a viable young talent in the pipeline. I don't fault him terribly for the Ponder pick, he had talent, couldn't get out of his own head. Liked the Teddy pick, we know how that ended. Thought the Cousins signing was the best option at the time.
BUT he never had meaningful talent, day 2 picks, in the QB room.
Oh I will forever fault the idiots who thought Christian Ponder was a top 15 pick. He was a second or third round pick basically on everyone's mock draft, but yeah, let's draft a guy who had to have his elbow drained multiple times in college. That's one of my least favorite Vikings picks of all time, at the moment and after his career was over. Brutal
uhm... have you ever heard of Demetrius Underwood?
Absolutely, but I was a kid when he was drafted therefore it doesnt resonate as much as Ponder. Williamson was another one but that WR class was brutal to begin with. The 2011 QB class wasnt very deep either but if my memory serves me correct, there were a lot of really good players in that draft taken in the 2nd and 3rd round. Ponder was such a reach and I knew it instantly.
You know who loved the Ponder pick? MB.
I hope you're being sarcastic. I wasn't on this board then, but those who know me from previous boards will know that I wouldn't shut up about one QB. Colin Kaepernick. I still have all of those posts, too. Dozens of them. Even got into an email war with a national writer over his ridiculous thought that Ricky Stanzi would be a better QB than Kaepernick.
But the worst pick wasn't Ponder. Or Underwood. Ponder was a reach but could've turned out OK, and in fact played a few seasons, rode AP to the playoffs one year. Underwood had a mental issue that few knew about. Worst pick in my opinion was Michael Boireau. Vikings took him in the 2nd round and nobody knew who he was. Wasn't on any draft boards at all. He never played. Not a single snap. He was out of the NFL in two years.
Wasn't Boireau in the same draft as Underwood? Man Denny Green couldn't draft a D lineman to save his job.

Year later, which made it hurt even more. Boireau was taken the year we took Hovan in the 1st. Just looking at drafthistory, we had a really bad streak of defensive players for several years: '98 Kailee Wong in the 2nd, '99 Underwood in the 1st, '00 Fred Robbins in the 2nd with Michael Boireau. '01 Willie Howard in the 2nd, '02 Raonall Smith in the 2nd.
It's people who aren't familiar with drafts like this that don't fully appreciate just how good Spielman has been.

Yes, being very sarcastic. You've mentioned many times how much you hated the Ponder pick.
I remember a kid on the old PT board named Ponderdat who was obsessed with Ponder, thought he was the next Joe Montana, couldn't stop posting about it. People get really weird ideas about things in this world.
