A Week Out Post Draft Musings
#1
  • Still can't believe we traded down and still got Darrisaw
  • Landing J Robinson was my second favorite pick to Darrisaw. Cannot wait for the preseason to see him tear up second and third stringers. Could be the kick blocker we've needed since Matt Blair
  • I would turn Ian Book into Rex Kern. He's not a QB at this level
  • Still can't believe the Lions are moving Sewell to RT and the Bears are moving Jenkins to LT
  • I'm still pissed we passed on Jabril Cox for Chazzz Surratt
  • Eagles are living proof that the only thing worse than blowing a first round pick is continuing to live with one
  • Second best part of draft weekend was the total shit show in cheese land between K'Arron Rodgers and their actual selections.
  • Next year we go after CBs and WRs in round 1. Looks like a pretty good year for corners.
  • Third favorite pick was Mond. Not only based on his potential, but for the FO acknowledging that Mannion is not the answer. How long have we asked for a QBOTF? Too freaking long
  • One guy to watch is Zach Davidson. If he starts getting reps as a holder or LS, we might be able to carry an extra DL, OL, or DB.

Vikings weren't the only team that let Cox slide. Monty Rice, Earnest Jones, Derrick Barnes, all taken ahead of Cox. And, for what it's worth, Bob McGinn's scouts had Surratt ranked higher than Cox.

Yeah, I get that. But, I was low-key jonesing for...wait that won't sound right...I really liked...um...no

I think Cox was the superior prospect.

I'm just excited for the prospects of a decent OL that should have lots of upside improvement.  My hope is that Wyatt Davis is a day one starter -- with Davis' bulk and strength, hopefully we see improvement from Bradbury as well as he gets help against the Kenny Clarkes and Akeem Hicks of the NFL that have given Bradbury fits.  Excited about other pieces as well, but also realize that this is the time of the year to overvalue draft picks and their potential impact.  The only downer for me is Mond.  He's a guy I saw a lot of over the past two seasons and just don't see him developing into a solid NFL starter.  I think folks are overrating his athleticism and he's just wildly inconsistent.

I've now watched a couple of games with Mond's throws.  I have never seen a QB blitzed as much as Mond -- it was eye opening (especially the 2019 LSU game).  Also, lots of miscommunications with wide receivers and a lot of dropped passes.  It was remarkable that the team almost made it to the playoffs last year.  Mond is widely inconsistent in his passes to the flat.  To me, he was much better throwing downfield than to the flats -- which is weird to me.  I remember reading that he sometimes aims his throws instead of just throwing it and I can see that being an issue on the shorter passes to the flat.  In some games he tries to do too much but I think that is the product of the poor talent around him.  I have a wait and see attitude about him.
