14. MINNESOTA VIKINGS — EDGE KWITY PAYE, MICHIGANThe Minnesota Vikings’ offense was one the league’s top units a season ago. They ranked seventh in overall offensive PFF grade (84.3), fourth in average yards per play (6.2) and sixth in offensive points scored.
The defense, on the other hand, was an extremely different story, earning PFF’s sixth-worst grade (53.4) and ranking dead last in pass-rush grade (59.3). The Vikings finished fifth-worst in average yards per play allowed (6.1).
Mike Zimmer famously said before the start of the 2020 season, “I’ve never had a bad defense.” He's going to do whatever it takes to make sure the abysmal performance from the unit last year remains an anomaly.
Adding Michigan edge Kwity Payne would be the first step in correcting last season’s pass-rush woes. His pass-rush win rate (26%) ranked first in the Big Ten and fourth in the Power 5 last season.
Kenchi Udeze comes to mind. Can get pressures, hurries, and hits. Just not enough sacks. I think it's a technique thing as all his movement numbers point to production. His 33" arms offset his lack of height. Definitely growing on me. With the way we use our DLmen, can see him kicking inside as a 3T along with Tomlinson.

Definitely think the Vikings will want an edge who has some experience inside. That's definitely Paye. Rousseau too. Vikings can complete their defensive line with this pick. Or their offensive line. I go back and forth on which one would be best. They can do both but it's going to require bringing in a veteran or somehow getting that 2nd back.

I think I can find more OT prospects in the 2nd than DEs. At least, OTs that I like. Let's say you took Paye and followed it up with Brown in the third. Or trade down, get Rousseau around 19 and get Cosmi in the second?

Honestly, I'm good either way.

Its going to be a long 20 days 11 hours or so until we pick.

Depending on what they do with the IR rules this year, I might take a stab at Fisher.

I think Fisher would be a good post-draft fall back option if we miss on OL in the draft. I'm OK with Rashod Hill playing LT for a few games until Fisher is ready. I found this: 13. Eric Fisher, OT, Kansas City Chiefs (30)Fisher is a tough player to slot, given that he’ll be spending his offseason rehabbing after suffering a torn Achilles in January. As a point of reference, Eagles guard Brandon Brooks tore his Achilles in January of 2019 and started all 16 games the next season. So Fisher being healthy by Week 1 of 2021 is not out of the question. He has 113 career starts and is a two-time Pro Bowler. Demand outweighs supply at left tackle, meaning Fisher should still have a strong market, despite the injury.

I'm not advocating for Paye or another DE vs an OL but I wonder how the defensive staff feels about Wonnum. Do they think he takes a leap and gets us 6+ sacks with an actual DL this year? If so, then they have to go OL. I haven't seen anything public stating he's the other starting DE so please chime in if you saw something I didnt.

PS - I'm commenting under the assumption Hunter is just fine next year.
