Has Barr played his last game with the Vikings?
#1
Is the defense that much worse without him?  Cutting him after the season would result in 7.8 mill in dead cap space but would also free up about the same (7.5, I believe).  Frankly, I don't think he is worth his contract.  Hopefully, Dye comes back this season (ankle injury) and gets some seasoning.  Also, Cameron Smith may be back next year.

I get it but 7.8 is a scary level of cap space, and is there more in the year after?

Barr seems to be a player Zimmer loves, and that's a big reason they pulled him away from the Jets. But maybe some of that sentimental approach is gone since other favorites like Rhodes and Joseph were released.

He might also be a prime candidate for a restructure.

That's a good question. It seems like there should be more ROI than there has been.

The dead cap space would be all next year (unless there is a way to designate him a June 1 cut, then the cap hit would be spread over 2 years).  They do need to cut him within 3 days of new league year (and hope he is no longer injured at the time).

I'm not a Barr guy as he's really slow in coverage. I think the Vikes use him incorrectly as he should be blitzing more often. I am definitely open to negotiating a restructure or cutting him

Barr, Rudy, Cook and Cousins should not have been resigned.

I agree, but disagree about Cook. Vikings thought they had a window so they resigned these guys. And Barr basically came back begging and Minnesota found a way to make it happen. Tactical errors are always clear in hindsight.

I think the rationale regarding KC was, what else is out there? Coming back to the same system, Kubiak, and the overall surround was analyzed and thought to be as good or better than before.

KC makes some bone-headed plays and he aint mobile, we know that. But with the right surround?

Vikings thought they had the pieces on O and screwed-up regarding the OL again then Diggs forced his hand out of here.

Then you've got all the Covid crap and the D draft capital gone in the blink of an eye + Barr lost for season.

It sounds like a bunch of excuses for KC, I think it's rationale for this conclusion: Life happens AND the Vikings have not done what they needed to in order to give him the best chance at success. The Vikings have a league avg OL on their very best days and a D that cant keep em in games very well anymore.

The whole thing imploded this off-season and their window is closed in 20. Maybe more competitive in 21.

I read an article earlier this year that revealed an overwhelming majority of big name RB production declines in their second contract. So you pay more and get less.
