I don't think Trey Lance makes it out of top 6 in NFL Draft

Too much innate talent. Too much upside. Too much this is the prototypical NFL modern QB now. He's built like a brick shit house, he can take some NFL hits. Sigh.

You know the story, right? Vikings will win just enough to screw themselves for any of the Big 3 QBs. I also could see a team trading up and over Minnesota to snag him. He's going to be the kind of kid that like 3 NFL GMs are going to lose their minds over and give away the damn farm to get him. That's all it takes. There doesn't have to be a consensus on Lance, you just need 2 or 3 crazy ass GMs to offer something too good to pass up for a team drafting in the top 6.

50% comp at FCS level leaves a lot to be desired from a qb.  He reminds me more of a taysom hill type player.  Nice gimmick guy,  but I doubt nfl defenses lose sleep over facing the guy.  I think he needs a strong spring season as a passer to build off his last years success,  yesterday doesn't prove much as far as a passer.

We will disagree on this. I agree he hasn't played a lot of games, but his upside is WAY more than Taysom Hill. He'll go top 15 in round 1 minimum. He does have a ways to go, for sure. But the NFL bet would be on the come and an upside that is massive. Too many college QBs drafted every year where their best play will have been college, not professionally. Its a different league now and this is exactly the type desired. Look at Josh Allen now in Buffalo, very raw when he came in and now the light bulb is on and his physical talent is pretty amazing. Same knocks on Allen coming out.

BUT.....he's a risk just like 95% of them. He's no Andrew Luck or Peyton Manning, a mortal lock. Will be interesting to watch.

I do think Lance is better than Carson Wentz was at NDSU.  I thought Wentz was going to be about a 4th rounder going into his draft then I was shocked when all the experts had him rated with the other top QB propects.  Man, was I wrong.

Fast forward to now, does Carson Wentz seem like a top rated NFL QB?  NDSU is not a passing offense, so it's hard to evaluate the QB at a pro level.  Trey Lance is used as a runner more than a passer even on passing plays.
Trey can zip it, no doubt, but it's hard to say if he'd do well sitting in the pocket trying to pick apart NFL defenses.

I think you're right Sticky. It's going to be a bum rush for the top 3 QB's, and I don't think we'll get a shot at any of them. Lawrence & Fields seem like locks to go 1-2, with Lance being a wild card. Still a lot of football to be played, along with the offseason moves and draft preparation, so lots can change until then.

Here's another takeaway from his game yesterday.
https://thedraftnetwork.com/articles/qb-trey-lance-s-performance-in-2020-showcase-game-offers-zero-clarity

The North Dakota State Bison made their lone scheduled appearance of the fall Saturday, and with it came one of the hottest tickets in the NFL scouting community: the chance to check out quarterback Trey Lance in person.
In all, there were between 25 and 30 NFL scouts in attendance to see one of the biggest hype trains of the summer leave the station for his one and only spin against Central Arkansas. Here's the good news: The Bison won 39-28 thanks to some sturdy play from Lance in the final quarter.
The bad news? Lance looked, by and large, pedestrian versus the gold standard he'd set as a redshirt freshman in 2019, where he accounted for nearly 4,000 yards of total offense with 42 total touchdowns and zero interceptions. Oh, right, and an undefeated 15-0 season and a romp to a third consecutive FCS National Championship.

So what do you think we should do with the number 7 pick?

Do you realize how many 7th rounders Rick could get for that pick?

If you believe in something? Go for it. Ballz to the wallz.

If the Vikings have just enough personnel and luck to get to that 6-7 wins? It will be painful. But KC would do the deal for Mahomes again in a minute and every way till Sunday...

Somtimes you just gotta say...

Blake Bortles was a late riser up draft boards and went #3 overall. Good runner in college averaged about 6 yards per carry. Didn't run the ball as much as Hill or Lance

I think Lance is better than Tysom Hill... but if the Vikings drafted Lance and stuck him in Kubiak's west coast system, I'm afraid we would have nothing more than a Blake Bortles.

If Bortles can get drafted in top 5 so can Lance.
