Little salt in the wound thread...
I don't know if our guys aren't getting separation? KC isn't finding open guys? Doesn't have time? Defenses playing differently than with Diggs in?
Maybe its all of the above.
Who ever didn't think we'd miss Diggs? Is sorely mistaken, at least so far.
When the Diggs trade happened, at least half this board was slapping Spielman on the back and crowing about the “haul” he got for Diggs. I know I’m whining but I remenber mostly me and FSUVike saying the trade was bad and getting a lot of criticism, and FSU left this board soon after.
The Bills sent us their 1st round pick which we used for Justin Jefferson. I like him a lot, but he might someday maybe be on Diggs’ level. The Bills got a proven star in his prime.
As for “the haul”...We received round 5 and 6 picks this year, which Spielman traded for later picks and I don’t know which 7th-round training camp fodder they turned into. We also received a 4th rounder in 2021, likely to be as good as recent 4th round picks like Jalyn Holmes, Jaleel Johnson, or Willie Beavers. Wow, the Herschel Walker trade was avenged!!!
Diggs was sent away for about half his value because he wanted to play in a modern NFL offense and be treated like other NFL stars, but Mike Zimmer thinks he is Woody Hayes and can not only run a primitive offense but can threaten players with losing their scholarship if they disagree with him.
In fairness, they did get a haul for a player they were going to have to trade because he wasn't staying here.

But Zimmer caused the split with Diggs and would not work to heal it. On the “WR Diva scale”, Diggs is pretty tolerable, and we’re never going to have talent at that position if every player has to fit a personality mold that Zimmer approves. And Spielman should have told Zimmer to do whatever necessary to keep Diggs happy. Some of you are bristling at this suggestion, but look at how players are treated in the NBA and accept that NFL success means going at least partly in that direction.

That's some good insider information you got there.
Look, I dont think you're wrong, but I dont think your're completely right with your narrative either. This is not all on the Vikings.
I wouldn't put Diggs Diva scale rating as tolerable. He had to go at that point and RS didnt do too bad in what he got in return.
But we've hashed and re-hashed this already. I'm coming back out of the rabbit hole now.
Diggs wanted to go to a modern offense. I don't blame him. Losing that kind of once in a lifetime talent is absolutely ridiculous and tragic.
Randy Moss in his prime to the Raiders was worse, much worse.
Look, we clearly miss Diggs and I was po'd we lost him. But I think some of you are giving Diggs a pass for being a diva and a Richard and coloring it he wanted something better and newer.
Both SF and GB pound the rock. SF kicked our ass last year with good d and pounding the football.
Look at what the GB rb did yesterday vs Detroit. The Titans too. Seattle does as well with 2 very good rbs. Dallas with Zeke.
These modern offenses have crossing patterns, bunch formations and pound the rock. The Vikings would too, but dont have the OL to do much of either.
PF, I don't think it's an either/or. I think it's both. So maybe he was a bit of a diva. I think that got blown out of proportion. I think part of that was to make it look like the team was doing a good thing moving on, but I do think Diggs wanted more from the offense. Of course Moss was much worse but losing Diggs is absolutely up there. They need to fix the OL as has been said year after year. But putting so much emphasis on the run and having defense issues is not going to help the offense either. Thielen is getting doubled and there is no complimentary receiver. Cousins is always looking for Thielen. This is such a mess.
We'll have to agree to disagree that Diggs was a bit of a tolerable diva and not a huge locker room cancer and disruption to the team. Those tweets werent pretty from #14.
That said, I miss Diggs the player on the field. As we predicted, teams are rolling coverage to Thielen and NOBODY else is stepping up or benefitting from it.
Regardless of where he was on the "diva scale", I think the staff badly misjudged his impact on the offense. In hindsight, it sure looks like, even when he wasn't getting great stats, he was taking double coverage or more on every play and pulling the secondary further downfield. Think what the effect that has on Thielen, on Cook, every other part of the offense. Bisi Johnson is getting a fraction of the attention and most everyone is bunched up in the middle of the field.
Maybe Jefferson turns into a threat soon and helps. I think the team thought Irv Smith would thrive, but the absence of Diggs might be taking away the open spots over the middle. Also, that drop by Smith on Sunday made me ashamed he was wearing #84.
Diggs has one of the greatest plays in team history. It's mind boggling to think they underestimated or didn't consider the impact losing him would have on the offense. I haven't heard anyone say he was a locker room cancer either. I call bullshit on that but whatever. Milquetoast Cousins couldn't handle being called out so he got coddled again. Oh unless it's Theilen, then it's ok and he got an apology too. I really hope another receiver steps up. Cousins has to look beyond Theilen and Cook though. This is definitely a defining moment for the team, we'll see what happens.

Side note- the fact the Vikings haven't retired #84 is clownish. #80 is retired for CC. I can't understand why #84 isn't retired for Moss. All due respect to CC who is a legend, Moss is widely thought of as the better player.
