I guess we'll find out what his value truly is.

Hey Dalvin, remember when Leveon Bell turned down 5 yrs, $70M? He ate some crow.

I'm fine with paying him top money when he's on the field. But he's not on the field. He's missed 19 games and played very banged up for several others. When he's banged (but still playing) up he's not even the best RB on our team let alone worthy of $16M/season.

I’m not so sure Cook’s agent knows wtf he’s doing, talking a holdout when clearly the new cba wouldn’t allow for it, calling out the coaching staff in the press about speaking w/ Dalvin, & now failing to respond to the teams latest offer. If I were Cook, I’d be shopping for a new agent, pronto...! B)

Imagine if the nfl ends up canceling the season and his rookie contract tolls to 2021......

I have no problem with Cook, I'd even say that I really like him. I'm just hesitant to give him big money. There is the obvious "injury" concerns, but more so I don't want to be tied down in an RB like we were with Peterson. Back in the day Peterson was the team, so I could see us overpaying to keep him. I really feel like our offense is going to take a turn for the better, even with losing Diggs.
I think that 2 awful contracts really skew the RB market right now. If Bell and Johnson's contracts didn't push Zeek and McCaffrey's up, i'd be ok with giving Cook 12 a year and he probably would be too. https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/rankings/average/running-back/

With the being said, I wouldn't be opposed for a short to mid range deal like 3/$36 or 4/$48. I'm sure the uncertainty of the cap for next year is a huge consideration too.

This is just a tough situation.
Cook deserves to get paid. The Vikings probably can’t afford or shouldn’t choose to pay him what the market would pay him. You’ve got a ton of great backs coming onto the market next year, which waters down the market. You got an uncertain cap amount due to Covid and all that jazz. I think the only real scenarios at play are Cook takes a deal below what he wants this year to get that guaranteed money or he waits, performs well and goes on the market next year or gets franchised. I’d hope the Vikings would let him go to market if it comes to that. |
