Michael Pierce OPS OUT

What does this mean to the cap space and potentially bringing in Everson for one more run?

Bringing in Everson? Points for looking on the bright side (cue Monty Python) of any news, but... Players are opting out all over the league, the MLB season is 4 days in and on the brink of falling apart...it means the chances of the NFL season even kicking off are slim to none.

Sadly, I agree.  Probably for the best but still a bummer

I wonder if he can change his mind. Not that I'm expecting him to, but what if in October everything calms down and he misses football. Can he opt back in?

This was discussed specifically on the radio this morning and they were pretty clear that once a player opts out, they cannot return during that season and their contract tolls.

The non bonus portion is added back to the cap, in this case $3 million.

After reading through this and considering his history with asthma, it's perfectly understandable. This entire situation sucks, but it certainly seems like the right call.

https://www.startribune.com/new-vikings-defensive-tackle-pierce-opts-out-of-the-nfl-season/571933382/

He talked to his childhood pediatrician, his family, his agent and the Vikings' medical staff, who could refer back to the chest X-ray Pierce had received when he signed in March.
The choice that Pierce called "heartbreaking," on Tuesday, was also something of a consensus.
"It's something I've been battling my whole life," he said. "It's unfortunate. I'm really, really upset about it. I flew up here last night, and I just wanted to talk to everybody and make sure they understood I take this more seriously than I think some guys do. I'm super-thankful they invested in me. If they get a vaccine, I'd love to be back out here in the spring, as soon as I possibly can. It's just an unfortunate time."
