In Minnesota, Juneteenth has been in official state holiday observance since 1996. President Obama acknowledged Juneteenth throughout his presidency. Maybe some people don't know because they didn't pay attention. Maybe it shows how history books need revision. I think the state of the nation shows how much more work there is to do in this country.

I will be honest. I heard the term Juneteenth before I'm sure. It went right over my head I guess. This is the 1st year I actually found out what it really is. Google calendar adding to my calendar started this. I guess it's the name maybe. It's not a very serious name for a serious commemoration. Juneteenth sounded silly to me I guess. I honestly did think it was some 4/20 or May the 4th be with you thing. Now I know what it is about at least.
