I don't believe this at all. The overton window has shifted tremendously in the last decade. People are changing dramatically. The democratic party is splitting into two groups, a progressive faction and an establishment faction. The republican party has similarly shifted towards populism. Only the most brainwashed people trust the media anymore, as it's got a lower approval rating than the government. People are rapidly understanding that their beliefs have been programmed into them by the media and are becoming more open-minded towards things. The people's response to the George Floyd incident is dramatically more empathetic than what happened in previous similar events, and people are open to real change and real reform much more than they were in the past.

I do agree about the splintering of parties...The conservative Republican party I used to belong to is long-gone.
Where its going off the rails for me is that the Trump playbook and dogma is far right and the consequences of this is dangerous and hugely negative for the country from my vantage point.
I hope the peoples response to Floyd is lasting. Seeing all those whities out protesting tells me this may be very different from the civil rights protests of the 60's. My hope is with the youth.

I'll tell you a funny story about prejudice though. Since my kids have been old enough to talk, as a somewhat joke but also serious, I've always told them they better not smoke or they'd end up driving a crappy car. All their money would go towards cigarettes instead of a nice vehicle. So for the longest time I'd point to someone smoking and driving a beater and tell them "SEE". They started pointing them out back to me which was alarming but kinda of funny. My wife would get soooo pissed.

I agree. I've been nothing but impressed with the younger generation. From my 13 year old kids and their friends to the 20-somethings I manage and/or work with. They are smarter, more progressive, and far more driven than me and my friends were at that age.
Speaking of which, I've noticed this kind of anti-young people thing going on, especially on Facebook among folks my age (50s). Not sure what that's about, but I don't agree at all. I see a bold, brilliant and fearless generation of kids (see Parkland).
My biggest fear for them is that they’ll lose hope by listening to us idiots in the older generation who, for whatever reason, are much easier swayed by propaganda and conspiracy theory than should be possible. Unlike us, young people still have fully functioning bullshit detectors. They know when they're being marketed to and they know when they're being lied to.
They don't believe, for example, that scientists, scholars and journalists have devoted their entire lives to deceiving them, while a reality tv star with decades of fraud is their only beacon of truth.

The people's response to the George Floyd incident is dramatically more empathetic than what happened in previous similar events, and people are open to real change and real reform much more than they were in the past.

I do agree about the splintering of parties...The conservative Republican party I used to belong to is long-gone.
Where its going off the rails for me is that the Trump playbook and dogma is far right and the consequences of this is dangerous and hugely negative for the country from my vantage point.
I hope the peoples response to Floyd is lasting. Seeing all those whities out protesting tells me this may be very different from the civil rights protests of the 60's. My hope is with the youth.

I have, mentored countless of em over the years...Many have big ideas, lots of tread left on the tires, energetic and fearless...They are our hope for tomorrow, I have no doubt about that.
I agree. I've been nothing but impressed with the younger generation. From my 13 year old kids and their friends to the 20-somethings I manage and/or work with. They are smarter, more progressive, and far more driven than me and my friends were at that age.
Speaking of which, I've noticed this kind of anti-young people thing going on, especially on Facebook among folks my age (50s). Not sure what that's about, but I don't agree at all. I see a bold, brilliant and fearless generation of kids (see Parkland).
My biggest fear for them is that they’ll lose hope by listening to us idiots in the older generation who, for whatever reason, are much easier swayed by propaganda and conspiracy theory than should be possible. Unlike us, young people still have fully functioning bullshit detectors. They know when they're being marketed to and they know when they're being lied to.
They don't believe, for example, that scientists, scholars and journalists have devoted their entire lives to deceiving them, while a reality tv star with decades of fraud is their only beacon of truth.
We’re very very hit or miss here on uder 30s. Every once in awhile we’ll track down good ones but far to often our education system has left them behind for whatever reason.
I absolutely love my son and his girlfriend's friends: straight up awesome kids. Both of them 26 years old and their friend group is likewise age. All have careers, respectful and just really have their shit together. It gives me hope for this generation. I just see these kids (mostly) so dependent on their parents still emotionally into their late 20s. Wasn't like that when I was a kid and I tried hard to make sure my son was independent. IMO, the more independent they are the happier they'll end up being.
