I dont think most people even knew what juneteenth was until orange man bad schedualed a campaign a rally on that date.
Lemme guess, you live in a very small, white town? Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Interesting how Trump says nobody had ever heard of Juneteenth until he scheduled that rally and then you hear that very same thing from conservatives everywhere. It's almost like there's a news network out there broadcasting all of his talking points.
I live in a medium sized town? Probably 100k in the county? I dont follow Trump or fox news, scouts honor. I came up with it all on my own.
If it makes you feel any better half our “friend group” is either of color or immigrants. Israel, Turkey, Jamaica and even some home grown people of non-white privlage.
Last friendsgiving we did a cultural dishes potluck which was fun. I very much enjoy talking about cultural differences and how the world sees America and Americans. You liberals seem hellbent on lableing every non democrat a racist and it is just a big pile of BS. In fact it seems to me that the ones who always see color are you guys because it continues to sow division which is good for you in November.
I think prejudice is a bigger and more insidious problem than racism. It's far more more widespread and inscrutable. Even tolerated.
One doesn't have to believe in a racial hierarchy to pre-judge others differently based on the color of their skin. But it's that pre-judgement that gets us every time. Whether it's the out of control "Karen-ing" or police brutality, it's a problem many of us don't even know we have.
Don't get me wrong, I think racism is alive and well in America, but there are millions of Americans who would angrily deny being a racist simply because they know they don't advocate institutional discrimination. But many of those very same people can be extremely prejudiced and think nothing's wrong.
But isnt predjudice a normal and inevitable part of human condtion? We all look to be with people we’re comfotable with. When we look for mates we look for ones that prolong our species. All animals do its part of being alive.
I can tell you theres many many great white, brown, black and every color inbetween people out there. Theres also idiots of every type out there. I dont hang out with idiots just because we have the same pigmentation in our skin.
Look at something not color related like tattoos or pericings. If some person all “tatted up” with a cow sized bull ring in their nose and dinner plates in their ears approches me I’m probably have a hard time relating to them...certainly at first even if theyre a great person underneith.
Take another example, if some dude wore a red trump hat and a cnn fake news teeshirt walked up to many liberals on this board theyed have the exact same reaction.
Yes, we all have prejudices. When I pass a car on the highway that has a Trump sticker, I immediately think "fucking moron." That's a prejudice. But there's a difference between judging people based on the decisions they make (maga, bull rings) and things that are out of their control, like age, race, sexual orientation, etc.
No doubt, there are blurry areas, like religion. Do we choose our religion? Where does culture fit in? People used to hate Daunte Culpepper because he wore all that "bling," but that's a big part of black culture, no different than Brett Favre's Wranglers and pick up trucks.
At the end of the day, it's probably best if we try to not pre-judge at all. Well, except for fucking morons on the highway.

So wait......is this, separate political factions on the Viking board coming together into agreement?????? Was today the day that lit the flame to a better tomorrow????!!! Lol. Just kidding, but as tough as we might argue for our own way behind the anonymity of a keyboard I think each and every one of us no matter our preferences in everything else just wants to have a better future for our kids and/or grand kids.
I'll tell you a funny story about prejudice though. Since my kids have been old enough to talk, as a somewhat joke but also serious, I've always told them they better not smoke or they'd end up driving a crappy car. All their money would go towards cigarettes instead of a nice vehicle. So for the longest time I'd point to someone smoking and driving a beater and tell them "SEE". They started pointing them out back to me which was alarming but kinda of funny. My wife would get soooo pissed.

I do agree about the splintering of parties...The conservative Republican party I used to belong to is long-gone.
Where its going off the rails for me is that the Trump playbook and dogma is far right and the consequences of this is dangerous and hugely negative for the country from my vantage point.
I hope the peoples response to Floyd is lasting. Seeing all those whities out protesting tells me this may be very different from the civil rights protests of the 60's. My hope is with the youth.
Hope is with the youth lol. Have you employed any if them.........
I’ll be impressed with the youth when they can tell me how many 1/4”s there are in an inch. Or how full should a 1/4 scoop of grain be.
I have, mentored countless of em over the years...Many have big ideas, lots of tread left on the tires, energetic and fearless...They are our hope for tomorrow, I have no doubt about that.

I agree. I've been nothing but impressed with the younger generation. From my 13 year old kids and their friends to the 20-somethings I manage and/or work with. They are smarter, more progressive, and far more driven than me and my friends were at that age.
Speaking of which, I've noticed this kind of anti-young people thing going on, especially on Facebook among folks my age (50s). Not sure what that's about, but I don't agree at all. I see a bold, brilliant and fearless generation of kids (see Parkland).
My biggest fear for them is that they’ll lose hope by listening to us idiots in the older generation who, for whatever reason, are much easier swayed by propaganda and conspiracy theory than should be possible. Unlike us, young people still have fully functioning bullshit detectors. They know when they're being marketed to and they know when they're being lied to.
They don't believe, for example, that scientists, scholars and journalists have devoted their entire lives to deceiving them, while a reality tv star with decades of fraud is their only beacon of truth.

We’re very very hit or miss here on uder 30s. Every once in awhile we’ll track down good ones but far to often our education system has left them behind for whatever reason.
I absolutely love my son and his girlfriend's friends: straight up awesome kids. Both of them 26 years old and their friend group is likewise age. All have careers, respectful and just really have their shit together. It gives me hope for this generation. I just see these kids (mostly) so dependent on their parents still emotionally into their late 20s. Wasn't like that when I was a kid and I tried hard to make sure my son was independent. IMO, the more independent they are the happier they'll end up being.
