I'm really trying to gear myself for what is sure to be a bruising presidential campaign. One with about as much vitriol as our country can muster...Between Covid, racial injustices and what seems like s hit show of a world in so many ways?

I'm weary. But this generation gotta muster-up to change the wrongs too.

Makes me appreciate even more what previous generations were able to do, had to do (i.e. The Hero Generation etc.)

What generation you talking about, mine, Boomers have put it on the ground.  Hope your not thinking there will be redemption for us, hell we caused most of this.

I tell my 27 year old not to knock the boomers too badly, we did call out Vietnam, dealt with LBJ, Tricky Dickie and brought you Abraxas, Sticky Fingers, The Rain Song, Bob Dylan and so much more.

But yah, regarding race, systematic racism, climate and more? We've been woefully inadequate.

I don't get the boomer hate.  There's only a handful of people shaping society.  Most boomers like most millenials and gen Zers are just living life, and are shaped by the handful of influential people.  It's idiotic to think that the whole generation should be blamed for where society went.
Our elders transitioned us from a point where racism was common place and frequent and in your face, to a place where we had to make new terms like "systemic racism" and "white privilege" to describe the racism you can't see.
We're all awakening together.  We're on the same journey.  We're all leaving the future a better place.  And the generations ahead of us will see the problems they face and wonder why we didn't foresee them and stop it.

It ain't boomer hate, it's manning up, and being embarrassed the hubris of my generation.  It's my personal observation and opinion, equivocate all you want.  What we have handed off to the next generation is a steaming pile, and certainly not better than we were given.

No doubt. And what hasn't helped society is how many (not all) parents have been raising their kids in the social media era: spoiled, entitled and not equipped mentally to handle even the smallest setbacks. Parents handle everything for their teenage babies. Obsessed with themselves and narcissistic, way beyond the normal teens of the recent past. Don't raise them to be independent, but raise them enabled and co-dependent. And for some reason, they feel this is good parenting.

Man this could be a rabbit hole of regret and trepidation, so I will quote Robert Frost at this point.
"In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: it goes on"
