Cognitive Dissonance
#1
I posted something similar to this in one of the other threads, and it just kind of got washed away.
Cognitive Dissonance is a term that describes some of the psychological bases for why people of the other party seem so crazy.  It's not just them, it's also you.  Humans fundamentally act irrationally based on the knowledge they learned in the past.  Our brains make a lot of assumptions as we filter out the massive amounts of new information we receive all the time.  That's normal.  It is beneficial to you to learn some of the limitations of all our brains, both of people you are trying to convince, as well as starting to see your own blind spots and ignorance.

This woman's hair might make it appear that she doesn't have valid opinions, but I think her video on the matter is concise and clear in explaining what can be pretty complicated.

This is a list of several cognitive blindspots that we have, both for politics and life in general.

This video from Scott Adams does a good job of explaining how to detect Cognitive Dissonance in practical terms when it's happening.

This is Scott Adams discussing an interview between Jordan Peterson and Cathy Newman and the corresponding interview, so you can see cognitive dissonance in action.

I am intrigued,  thanks for sharing.  I will have to circle back when not at work.
