I agree with conclusion but Coller's illogical hype never sits well with me.  He mentions "desperation" in the article and frequently on air.  Really?  Why would the team be desperate for a wideout?   Especially in light of the entire premise of the article!

Then he gets a PFF guy on yesterday who keeps preaching don't draft for need, then turns around and doesn't like Coller's mock draft because he didn't take a wideout.

I would be giddy with anticipation if the Vikings landed any of the top four receivers in this draft class. But that scenario creates some concern for me.
The Vikings don't have a great draft history when it comes to first round receivers, and I believe the bust rate is higher than one would expect. Like O-linemen, receivers often don't round into form until their second year in the league.
But my biggest concern is there is greater need elsewhere.
Therefore I would rather take a receiver later in the draft in round 3 or 4. It's a strong draft class for receivers.

The Vikings definitely need an O-lineman. But once again their draft history for first round selections hasn't been great. I favor using a second round pick for a potential starting O-lineman.

CB in the first round isn't always popular here, but I think it is a critical need at this point. I also would like to see defensive lineman selected high. Either a penetrating 3 technique DT or edge rusher.

It will be interesting see what the Vikings do.

Better?
Thanks! Not a single mention of having a Receiver that can take the Top off of a Defense, so a very superficial analysis IMO. And Thielen is not Andre Johnson.

I believe the author isn't comparing Johnson to Thielen other than to illuminate having a single top tier WR and role guys around him. No one in their fucking mind would make that comparison.

But that's superficial in that they do different things, so it's not an apples to apples comparison. If they both were WR1 who played the same way then sure.

For the purposes of the article, it's inconsequential HOW they operate as a #1 WR. The idea is that in a Kubiak run offense without a 1B WR, other options are available. His personnel in Houston is similar to what we have now.

I guess if I was beating the drum for what Kubiak ran in Denver with two 1,000 yard WRs, I would not care for this article either.

Neither Geoff nor I are beating the drum for what Gary ran in Denver. We're pointing out that he does like to go deep, just like Stefanski did, and there are currently zilch options to take the Top off of Defenses on this Roster.

Hate the person all you want. His childish behavior warrants it. But you can't deny that Diggs the player was Top 5 in multiple categories regarding cstching passes over 20 yards last year.

With your Objective Hat on, tell me you don't think Defenses will load the box to stop Cook and double Thielen now that there's no legit deep threat (currently) on this team.
