Herbert sliding in many mocks to Pats at #23
#1
I can’t believe he drops out of the Top 6, but if he does and it’s like Deja Vu with Alex Smith vs Aaron Rodgers ...

Do you take Herbert at #22 if he’s there?  Why or why not?

Personally I’m not sold on Cousins and I think Herbert has a ceiling higher than Burrows ...

You have to take Herbert @22 but he will not get there. pats and others will trade up for him if he falls out of top 15

hell if he falls to 15 we should trade up

The Viking should run to the podium if Herbert is there at #22.

The way they structured Cousins contract, they can trade him next off season BEFORE his 2022 salary is fully guaranteed.

The other team would get Cousins on a contract that is 21M in year one and 35M in year two which is very reasonable.

The Vikings would save 11 mil in cap space in 2021 and 45 mil in 2022.

You could even argue that the Vikings should use their 2021 first round pick to move up to get Herbert or Tua.

Then, if they trade Cousins to a team for that team's 2021 first, they will have recouped the pick.

One thing is for certain.

If Mannion or Browning have to play any then we are in ...

More trouble than a little bit!

It's certainly something to strongly consider.  On the one hand, we have a very good QB.  But will his limitations (not being elite) keep him from carrying us to a Super Bowl victory?  Not necessarily... but we'll need other pieces around him for that to happen.  On the other hand, Herbert MIGHT be the kind of QB that becomes elite- and can carry a sub-par team on his back.  I honestly don't know if KC was "sub-par" at other positions or not... but I'm fairly confident that they wouldn't have won with just a "good" QB.  So... we COULD take a big swing and hope that Herbert becomes elite.  But, who knows if that ever happens?  Lots of QBs have been projected to be "great" in the NFL (even Johnny Manziel)... who turned out to be turds, in one way or another.  There's just no way to know.

So if we swing- and miss- we're back to the pre-Ponder days: desperate for a QB.  If we keep Cousins, we'll be OK... but (maybe) never great.  Or we could win with him- but only if everything else falls into place.  To me, it's not as cut-and-dried as some are making it out to be.

If the Vikings traded for Cousins and took on his 56 million in contract AND gave up a 1st round pick I would see that as a bad deal.

Why would another team pay that if there are questions about whether KC can deliver a Superbowl?

Exactly,   which is why extending him was a mistake.  If they are going to flail,  at least do it with a bunch of potentials,   not a guy that is good enough,  but needs a strong supporting cast to get you any where.   If KC would gave a brady type approach to his contract for the sake of building a team I would love him,  but I dont think "team" is in his long term plans.

Herbert reminds me of a poor man's Can Newton.  I just don't see the accuracy or decision making for him to be an elite passer.

You believe TB gave the Patriots a discount. I don't.

Given the Patriots history, I will always believe TB was put into secret hush hush lucrative business opportunities in partnership with Kraft.

Brady taking less in Cap salary is true, but to me its complete BS he wasn't compensated in shall I say quiet behind the scenes and creative ways JMO

The Vikings traded a 1st and a 4th to take on Sam Bradford and 25 mil remaining of his contract.

I do not know what another team may see in Cousins (49ers and Shanahan) and what they think they can do with him.

I do not know Cousins is unable to deliver a Super Bowl.

They lost to the 49ers because the offensive line got their arses whupped and the defensive line did as well.

When one team runs 47 times for 186 yards and you run 10 times for 21 yards then that ain't on the QB.

I do not buy into the nonsense that it is KC who is solely responsible for the team getting to the Super Bowl and winning.
