You know what? I don't have to like them to recruit them. And my Hiring Mangers find ways get them to be productive quickly, despite the drama.
Now imagine that same age group getting millions of dollars to play Sports. With their huge group of groupthink hangers-on. And their penchant to play video games and blab on Social Media instead of going outside and engaging with humans in person.
The Minnesota Vikings have now failed 3 times at WR and once at RB when it comes to dealing with highly productive divas. One of the Receivers is in the HOF. The RB will be one day, too.
And who's to say Adam isn't next out the door? He factually performed less well than Diggs on his own. His methodology may differ but why assume he would be happy with his targets and not follow Diggs' path?
Oh, he'd never do that, you'll say. Why? Cuz he's white? He's already called his QB out publicly. And by doing so called out Zimmer's run-first preference in the process.
I don't know if it's an Upper Midwest thing, a Wilf thing, a Rick thing or a Zimmer thing. At some point the franchise needs to stop acting like a grumpy old man yelling at the kids on his lawn and learn how to manage around the behavior. Ignore him and fine him. Sooner than later it will work. Kids need cash and so do their hanger-ons.
Most of you want to win a Super Bowl before you die. Me, too. I don't see that happening if they can't learn to deal with precocious talents. This was hardly Owens or Brown level acting out. But if Diggs' behavior is the bar you're going to see more kids wanting out only to be replaced by much less talented players who happen to keep their mouths shut.
the behavior that you know of.... we arent there we dont know what was said or done behind the scenes. it was in the teams best interest to not let that shit out and it was in diggs best interest to keep a poker face to how badly he wanted to leave. we may never know, but I doubt the team parted ways with one of the best contractual returns that they have ever had without much consideration of all the facts, not just what the public was made aware of.

I'm guessing after the 49er game (or a half dozen others) where countless times he was seen breaking free, completely open, only to watch Cousins either check down under pressure, or get sacked under pressure. Diggs might have said a few things about that. I don't know whether he blamed the protection or the Cousins himself, but I can pretty much guarantee you he was hot about it.
But you know what? So was I. And I wouldn't want a choir boy receiver on my team who isn't competitive and doesn't get a little pissed off every now and then. You watch those replays and he's giving 110% on every one of those routes. The footwork is jaw-dropping. Only to stand there and watch the play breakdown. That has to be frustrating. Everyone talks about Thielen as if he's some kind of saint, but there have been many times when he was pissed off too.
If I'm in charge of the team, I talk to Diggs about that. Tell him you're going to fix the offensive line. Fine him, bench him, whatever, but don't trade the best player on the team and hope to somehow "get over the hump."
I mentioned that earlier. AT was pissed as well. But his avenue of discussing this was productive. Diggs has the passive aggressive avenue that eventually got him what he asked for, but perhaps not what he wanted.
All NFL players are alpha and competitive. They wouldn't be there if they weren't, the difference is how they handle it. Blowing up once if it is needed can be the sign of a leader. Getting angry every other game and pouting is not. And it isn't good for the rest of the team.

he was unhappy long before this season, what got him wanting out last offseason? I have serious doubts that all those rumors coming out of the DC area about Diggs wanting out didnt come from a source close to Diggs. I am sure he gets frustrated at times, kind of like I am sure that Kirk gets tired of getting knocked on his ass waiting for Diggs triple deek routes at times, but you dont see him screaming at his lineman, you didnt see him screaming at Diggs for the dropped passes or the doinks off the face that get picked. that parts of team sports, you do your part and hope the rest do theirs. he felt he was doing more than his share and got pissy they fined him, he still acted out so instead of hurting the team long term they opted to try and turn it into a situation where they can possible improve the team... addition through subtraction. it wouldnt be the first time and it wont be the last. he is a great talent but after a while the juice isnt worth the squeeze. time will tell if Rick was right or wrong, but either way its over so what are fans to do?

That is a very misleading stat since the denominator isn't consistent YOY or player by player. What it proves is that Diggs is good at catching the ball, which I don't think anyone has questioned. If he were #1 in contested catch attempts, that would be a different story when it comes to Kirk throwing into traffic. Point being, a lot of production was left on the table and I don't think the drop-off from Diggs to another above average receiver will be much, in this situation. In a different offense, it would likely be a different story. But that is the whole issue at its core, there are not enough targets to keep someone like Diggs happy. But the WR depth now will not be what the room will look like.
To you point on the Vikings handling egos/childish behavior, I 100% agree. You have to find a way to deal with big egos because shocker, the best players in the league think highly of themselves. I would also agree the Vikings could have more tolerance but it doesn't mean they haven't had success stories. Look at Dalvin Cook and Barr to some extent. I wouldn't let Diggs off the hook either because regardless if its a generational difference, or a shitty attitude you never quit on your teammates. You can't simply decide you're not going to show up. Everyone suffers in that case and that is 100% wrong. The Vikings dealt with that and were ready to move forward but in Diggs eyes he was wronged and misused. You can't fix that forever.

Well, we didn't know the behind the scenes stuff because Diggs didn't put it out there. Unlike Thielen, who got his thoughts out to the media and made Cousins apologize on his broadcast.
That's not to knock Thielen at all, but there seems to be this huge double standard. Thielen took his grips to the public, Diggs kept them mostly in-house. Diggs is the diva? Isn't keeping things in-house the best course?
Thielen yells at Cousins on the sideline, Diggs calms those two down. Diggs is the diva? Thielen throws his helmet quite a bit, yells at teammates, refs and other team's coaches. Diggs puts out a 3 word tweet. Diggs is the diva?
My guess, Diggs didn't like playing with Cousins. I'm thinking a missed Diggs wide open play conversation went something like this:
Diggs: I was open on that play.
Cousins: with the look the defense was giving, the playbook says to throw it to Hamm.
Diggs: but I was wide open from the start of the play.
Cousins: not according to the playbook.
