The Political Ad We Need

Who's the we here?  I don't think attack ads/memes are the right choice for the democrats.  The democrats are like the boy who cried wolf.  The country has been bombarded since Trump started running with stuff like this and people just don't care anymore.  They've been constantly playing the fear card, and people are feared out.  At this point I think the majority of the claims against Trump will look more poorly on the democrats than on Trump to most people, especially as all their accusations are bearing no fruit.

The democrats need to abandon the anti-Trump rhetoric and reestablish how they're going to make the country better.  You can clearly see the democratic party splitting in two, as you have the crony establishment part of the democrats that are just playing politics and pushing away the centrist democrats which are their base, and you have the progressive democrats that are actually for something gaining power.  The socialist democrats are too scary for the centrists, and the progressive democrats find crony corrupt democrats appalling.  Their only hope of winning the presidency is to find a candidate that has a clear vision forward, but isn't intolerable to anyone.  I think their best chance is probably a Sanders-Yang ticket, where they downplay the "socialist" parts of Bernie and try to focus on rebranding it as a pathway to a better future or something.

If I was the democrats I would focus on:
  • A plan to lower the full time work week without loss in yearly income.  I think a 35 hour work week should be doable within one presidents term.
  • Common sense border security, where they reaffirm that they want an orderly, secure border, that focuses on compassion and quick processing.  Increase in spending on border security to help process people in a quicker more humane manner.
  • Closing tax loopholes for the wealthy people and corporations who don't pay taxes.
  • Reducing our spending on military and using that money to spend on productive programs
  • I would eliminate all identity politics type phrasing.  They need to avoid all forms of blaming.  Focus on things like "we're all in this together" and not the "patriarchy" or "whites and asians are oppressing blacks and hispanics".  Blaming pushes people away and they can't afford to push people away.
  • I would compromise with Trump and give him praise where his views overlap with democratic viewpoints.  The democrats are viewed as very obstructionist.  They've wasted the entire Trump presidency being opposed to every Trump does because of Trump.  They need to be viewed as part of the solution and not resisting all progress just because it's associated with Trump.  They need to heal divides.  I think a good place to do this is with Mexico enforcing it's southern border and accepting asylum-seekers.  Their border is much smaller and much cheaper to enforce.  This was a good negotiation that Trump did, and the Democrats should keep it up.
  • They need to do something with health care.  I'm not sure socialized health care is an acceptable leap for enough voters.  I think something clearly needs to be done for part time workers and that's where I would focus my efforts.  I would try to restructure things such that your employer doesn't directly buy your insurance for you (which is only available to full time employees).  Instead, they would give you a certain amount of money which could only be used for insurance, and then you would choose your own insurance.  Each company would offer you X amount of dollars for working full time, and it would be prorated based on how many hours you worked, and X had to be above some floor similar to minimum wage, so working two jobs for a total of 40 hours is the same as working one job of 40 hours.  Then I would allow people to group together in a buying group or a co-op or something so that they can have leverage in getting better deals.  I would also tie this together with a national health care rating system.  When you get health care, there's an option to review them based on cost and your satisfaction levels, so that people know which hospitals are gouging people and which doctors provide bad care.

As someone who considers themselves a conservative, moderate, who's voted both Dem and Red over the years, I couldn't agree more...

Anti-Trump rhetoric means nothing to me. Tell me how the country and world can be a better place for me and my kids generation...

throw in UBI via a VAT tax on these companies who use our data and dont pay us for it.  if I was SKODIN LLC all the data that i have to offer through my internet usage, purchases, etc, I would be paid for. Not only do they not PAY US, they use our habits against us to addict us more, generate additional spending

god i cant imagine how the middle class would be doing with an extra $2k a month.  car fixes, medical bills, student debt, home improvements, online education, or just money spent locally would benefit EVERYONE

this is not even discussing the original
purpose of the freedom dividend (UBI) offsetting lost income from the rise of robotics.  Truck drivers, you are on your way out in 10 years, most likely less.  All of those midwestern towns that survive (diners, stores, motels) off the truck drivers, they are on their way out as well.  These jobs arent being taken over by illegal immigrants, they are being taken over by robots. Wal Mart, Target, Amazon distribution will slowly become fully automated systems.

a FJG is shit. a wealth tax is a failure.  The Freedom Dividend is where it is at and regardless the candidate, this must be front and center for policy moving forward

Andrew Yang.  the only candidate that both parties like

Why stop at $2k UBI?  Why not $3k or $10k.  Maybe even $100k/month then we can all be rich!!!!
You can't take from the wealthy and give to the poor without driving all the wealthy to other places in the world to hide their wealth....then we'd all be poor.  Wealthy people will find and/or make holes in any system a politician sets up and exploit it.

I've seen elementary school kids handle class elections with more maturity than modern-day Democrats.  And if anyone is offended by that, just remember what Barr posted above.
