Vikings coordinators
#1
Are the Vikings waiting for the Super Bowl to play out to pilfer a coordinator from one of the remaining teams?

Andre Patterson is easily the most qualified internal candidate to take over as DC, but a lot of buzz out there that he wouldn't want it. That he loves coaching his line and that's all he wants to do. Internally, Adam Zimmer might be the only option. Which brings up the nepotism issue, which might be OK for one job, but both coordinators? Nepotism actually concerns me less than the idea of Zimmer getting the perfect yes man in his son, when what he might need most is someone to challenge him, offer new ideas.

On the offensive side, the internal options are Rick Dennison, who has several years experience as a coordinator, none of which were particularly successful, and Klint Kubiak, son of Gary. #1 priority for the offense is continuity. You absolutely don't want Cousins and company learning a new offense in '20. I don't know of too many ways you keep that going outside of promoting Klint.

It's going to be hard to address the coordinator positions until Rick and/or Zim get extended. I'm wondering if that shoe has to drop first before anything happens.

JMO, but I don't care when it happens. There's no rush. Who knows the reason, but there must be A reason for it.

You wanna really stir shit up hire Wade Phillips, I would love that move personally. No clue on the offense but Mike McCoy needs a job. Just wild speculation

Wade Phillips would certainly be interesting...  he fits the profile of a Zimmer hire.  Former HC, been around the game a long time, and has had success with other teams.  He is a guy who could bring a new perspective to the defensive room.  I think a lot depends on if Zimmer thinks new concepts are needed to tweak his defense or if personnel is the main culprit.

One thing is for certain if you hire Wade...Barr would be worth his contract...

I like the Wade Phillips option a lot.  I think Zimmer has had a slightly better
defensive track record, but I think there’s a lot of advantages to bringing in
a guy that can be the man.  I think as
long as Zimmer is owning the defense rather than the whole team, we’re going to
be missing that something that comes with having a true head coach and a true DC.  I do think there’s something in our Zimmer/Edwards
lead defense that isn’t quite there.  I
think our defense is missing the attacking nature that it once had.  I think it used to take on Zimmer’s fiery tone,
but he’s had to mellow it down as he transitioned to a more true HC as the
offense struggled.  I don’t know too much
about Phillips demeanor, but I think it would be advantageous if we could bring
in some aggressive tone setters into our coaching staff.  We’ve got so many boy scouts, which has its
pros, but getting some guys that players can rally around would be a plus.
I think a Zimmer – Kubiak/OC – Phillips would be a strong brain
trust, and maybe one that would be staying here for a while as no one would
really be looking to move upwards.

How they use Barr gets a C grade from me most games. That dude should have 10-12 sacks per year.
