KFAN is the King
#1
New radio ratings are out, via Nielsen.

@KFAN1003's numbers are just absurd:
 - #1 rated sports station in the entire country
 - #1 rated station of any kind in Minnesota

 - #5 rated station of any kind in the entire country

 - 0.4 ratings points from KFAN's highest ratings ever

#1 rated for the entire country? How is that possible? Half the time they don't even talk sports. How far does their signal reach? These numbers seem absurd for a local MN sports station vs. some big market places.

Apparently Cowboys country doesn't have a sports station...

they are pretty much the only game in the region, i would bet that the bigger markets have more sports stations that specialize more to certain teams/leagues,  there isnt as much competition in the mnpls market.   also they are picked up and rebroadcast all over the upper plains area.  I was on the ND/SD border only an hour from the Montana/ND border and I was picking up their broadcast the day that Favre came to Minny.

th
 Agreed. How do you beat places with large population densities like the NE or even San Fran? I guess we'd need the definition of what being a #1 rated sports station means.

Probably means KFAN has the highest sports station within their respective mkt...

The fact that Kfan is #1 rated station of any kind in MN is still impressive. Especially with a dip like Common Man on everyday  :p

I think they’re ranking stations by percentage of their
target market that are listening to KFAN.

It may be considered a sports station and rated as such but that doesn't mean they're only pulling listeners FOR sports.  A person may not like their content because it's not entirely sports focused if that's what is desired.  There are stations available that are like that but in my opinion most people don't want ONLY sports ALL of the time.  Personally I don't want to listen to hour blocks about the NBA or NHL.  A reason why KFAN is popular, specifically the Power Trip, is that even though their backbone is Minnesota professional sports, they are an entertainment program that will talk about ANY topic that is interesting.

I listen to the PT podcast of their show every day at work - haven't missed one show in over ten years.  Whenever I go on vacation I'll catch up when I get back.  Hearing that their podcast numbers are astronomical tells me that many people do the same.
