Daniel House does a good job reviewing several areas and players.  I enjoy the article and he seems to balance the preseason game with plenty of knowledge from training camp.  That really bolsters a great breakdown with some depth.

As you said, this is a good read and great breakdown that adds to a lot of the positional battles we are all watching.
  • Just so I can be the first to ask...does Beavers have a shot at winning the RT job over Remmers??
  • There is a bit of a logjam at DT: I don't think they can carry 5 (Joseph, Tom Johnson, Datone Jones, Shamar Stephen, Jaleel Johnson). Tom Johnson seems to be a big favorite of many fans, but I thought he had declined last year even before getting hurt. I don't think both he and Jones will make the team.
  • House sure makes it sound like Eric Wilson is well ahead of Elijah Lee - can anyone who observed practices comment? I thought Wilson was the better college prospect, but they used a draft pick on Lee..

Doubt Beavers is winning the starting job.  Will be happy if he improved enough to make the roster.

at DT, I think Datone eventually wins the job.  He was a former 1st round pick, right?  Tom J is a good pass rush guy, but gets mauled in the run game.  But I think he makes the team unless the other johnson shows he is ready.  If we keep only 4, it would probably mean cutting Tom or Jaleel.

I would really love to hear some report or see evidence in a preseason game that Datone Jones is making plays - but I have not yet. I'm glad we signed him because he was a very good prospect coming out of college and I think GB mis-used him for 4 years. But resurrecting his career is an experiment, and it might not work.

it isn't much, but if anyone can help him resurrect his career, it is patterson.

Thanks Greediron. Hey, Patterson said Jones is improving - that's a start.  Smile

I have to admit, I was impressed with Willie Beavers. If his performance against the Bills was any indication, he might just make this team. Looked like he belonged at right tackle.

That is a huge step.  If he can be a viable option at RT for the future, it solidifies our line in a big way.

Looking forward to seeing a bit more of these guys Friday.

He's the damn Invisible Man...  I haven't heard boo about him from any beat reporters or any guys that fashion themselves scouts on Twitter.

Joseph and Stephen (most  likely) are locks at NT, but there will be a serious battle at 3T.  Tom Johnson will have a spot locked down as a pass rushing specialist if we keep 3 guys there.  If not...  It's anyone's guess who wins the starting spot and is the backup.

The one wild card in all this is Jaleel Johnson.  I don't know if the team is looking at him as a NT or 3T...  I doubt he gets cut since he was a 4th rounder as had a nice sack against the Bills.  But where is the team looking at him?  If it's at NT, he could bump Stephen off the final 53...  Plenty to sort out here.
