Most had him the #1 or #2 ranked corner pre-Draft. Obviously the Cardinals let him become a FA and I wouldn't say he's a true outside, cover corner....but its not like he doesn't have some talent and athletic ability. But the thought of paying him a massive contract makes me a little queasy. He's in reality, he's a decent #2 CB on a team....not great, but decent.

That's where I'm at on Murphy.  I don't think he's a lock down #1 CB.  If he comes in below that in a new deal, let's re-sign him.  Otherwise let some other team overpay.  We'll have some options on the FA market to get a good CB like Murphy for a more reasonable rate IMO.

IMO he is one of the better slot corners in the league with the ability to kick outside. In today's NFL the slot corner position has become incredibly important with multi-receiver sets on offense and teams looking to exploit matchups by moving their best receiver into the slot. This is where Murphys value is at and I'd hate to lose him and have to replace yet another key player when the cupboard is pretty bare at corner as is. It's not as easy as just going bargain hunting and expecting them to simply replicate what Murphy could do..

9 page thread on FA and only a passing comment on Milton Williams? *tisk tisk tisk*

You’re right, MB. You need me on this board. You want me on this board. But you can’t possibly fathom the job I have to do to keep this board informed.

After the run we took at Christian Wilkins last year the most obvious target is Williams. Two piss poor years as a run defender two 70+ years. Maybe the DC change to Fangio didn’t fit? Dunno. But he’s an excellent pass rusher. I think he’s priority 1A if history teaches us anything.

My only concern is he probably benefited a lot from Carter and then later Nolan Smith. But, he’ll get the same benefit from Greenie and Ginks as well as Year 2 Dallas Turner.

Speaking of Turner. Holy shit. The flashes this guy had. Long arm. Ridiculous bend. Closing burst. I think he got asked to do too much for a young rookie. He’s Derrick Thomas waiting to happen. Might take another year, but when he blossoms, multiple All Pro selections. DPOY? Definitely in the running. Not once did I mock him because there was NFW he’d get passed Atlanta. Verse was my “second choice”.

That's it right there. There is a concern that Williams largely benefited from the amount of talent on the Philly DL.

You do make a great point that given how hard Kwesi went after Christian Wilkins last offseason, Williams or another IDL could be a priority signing this year.

That strategy hasn't worked for us. We aren't competing with Philly, Detroit, or even the Rams by trying to tinker on the cheap. Spend the money and fix the problem.

Yabbut, who does it in a vacuum? Crosby? Garrett? Hutchison?

Of course I made a great point. I’m an astute motherfucker.  Big Grin

Love Williams, but I wish he were a little better against the run.

Depending on the year you look at, he was.

Not happy losing on Wilkins last year...I think that would have made an even bigger diff with Gink/Greenard.

As far as the talent on the DL, few teams field what Philly does. I just dont see that as rationale not to potentially pursue Williams.

The Vikes will have to set their priorities. All the needs wont get addressed in FA, just doesn't happen. From a personnel grouping need, I would list priorities as DB, IOL then DL.

Reports are the Vikings could release Josh Oliver with a post June 1st designation and save 8 million in cap.

I never really understood this signing and imagine we can fill his production with a cheaper contract.
