Offense in general is a mess. Most of the season they haven't been able to run. Yesterday when the run is working they drastically under-utilized it. The OL has been a hot mess forever now. Cousins is not as efficient as he was earlier in the season, mainly because he has to be shell-shocked.
I really think the blame for this mess falls mainly on two people. First, Spielman for his utter inability to find competent offensive lineman. Second, FeFlippo for his, in my opinion, horrible play calling. I can't count how often this season that I was accurate at calling the play before it happens. I've never coached or for that matter played the damn game but I know what is coming next with this offense so often it's ridiculous. How the hell do they not expect opposing defenses to know the same thing.
Not sure if it's fixable this season which really sucks because they have a ton of big money contracts tied up in this team.

Well I know that sounds tough and all, but I just want us to be wise about it. Sean McVay is everyone's darling and his first year as an OC his offense finished near the bottom in points scored. It improved ever year until he got his HC job four years later.
I agree that we should be scoring a lot more points with the weapons we have. But right now at least I put most of that blame on the OL. I think Flip is a guy who just might have a bright future, and he's going to have a LOT of mistakes to learn from between year 1 and 2. Just don't want us to make a decision that will come back to haunt us in a couple of years.
Do you suppose Flipper didn't know Zim wanted last seasons version of the Eagle's offense? It looks to me like Flip just gave the Vikes the sputtering Eagles offense of this season.

I am just going to say it...I feel like good old Rick has mismanaged the team this year. He dumps all of our QBs and spends mega bucks on Cousins. He then hires outside of the org for our OC when he apparently wants to stash Stefanski for some reason. Maybe, just maybe, there were candidates in house for those positions (OC and QB) that could have worked out better. Honestly, I feel like we're going to deeply regret letting Teddy go. To me, Rick overreacted to our ass whuppin' in Philly. He immediately wanted to emulate what they did. What they did was capture lightning in a bottle. Just look at them this year. DeFillipo's play calling is poor.
Zimmer hires coaches, not the GM.
You don't think Rick had any input in Flip's hiring? Well, ok...
I think Mike has the authority to make his own hires just like any other HC. He may consult Rick, and Rick certainly has to sign off on a coaching hire just like the Wilffs. Any more than that? No. We've seen zero evidence that Spielman dictates hiring decisions.

So are you saying he should be given 3-4 years to come up with an offense?
I'm not worried about his offense. I'm worried about his play calling. And I'm saying he should be given another year to learn from his mistakes and improve like McVay did. He seems to be a very smart Xs and Os man who doesn't yet have a feel for play calling. I'd be surprised if he didn't improve.

Yeah, I am not a fan of firing and creating more chaos. Get a line coach, run the ball and if all else fails, the Viking fan motto, there's always next year.
Hypothetical question about our OC situation. If you believe this year's offensive troubles are largely because of the switch from Shurmur to DeFilippo, that means we would have been better if we could have kept Shurmur.
There's only one way we could have convinced Shurmur to stay with the organization. So: should the Vikings have offered Shurmur the head coach job (either firing Zimmer or asking him to stay on as DC)?

Hell no. Nothing he's done with the Giants has showed me anything. Stubborn backing of Eli coming into the season. Criminal underusage of Barkley for entire halves of games. His playcalling hasn't exactly helped that O-Line out.
I've soured on Zimmer. Too much bitching about players to the media. Too many sound bites like 'are they even listening to me' and 'we weren't prepared' and talk about jitters.
He's an Old School Coach in a player-friendly Coach era. And I can't remember the last time an HC rallied a team by constantly complaining to the media about his players.
But Pat is no genius. He caught lightning in a bottle last year and didn't screw it up. There's better prospects out there.
experts say he’s padding his resume to become a head coach. His play calling isnt leading to wins.....I dont get why anyone would covet him????
