Not A Fan Of Flip
#61
Flip might be a good QB coach, he might have great play designs, but his ability to call plays during a game leaves a ton to be desired.  Remember when we had Childress and the dink & dunk 3-4 yard plans on 3rd and 7?   Same shit.

Shurmur, for all his faults, could keep a defense guessing and mix in enough runs even after losing Cook, but more importantly he would at least dial up a play with a WR running a route for 8 yards when needed 7, or a WR run a route for 12 yards when we needed 11.   Cousins throwing that damn 3 yard slant to Treadwell on 4th and 11 was shocking to me.  That has ZERO chance dude.  You're better off launching a 30 yard hail mary for an INT and at least play for field position if you're going to be that chicken shit -I don't care what the progressions tell you where to throw on a blitz if it's 4th down and you don't throw past the sticks your chances of converting are 1%.

Flip is not a good playcaller, period.  Is this his first season calling plays?  Anyone know who called the plays in Philly?

The offense is a mess. Defense was keeping us in the game but can't be the offense too. Flip not utilizing Dalvin more is pissing me off. Dalvin looked good yesterday and was hitting holes and making cuts like last year. Yet, he gets 9 whole carries. WTF???
I am starting to wonder if we should have just hired Stefanski. They kept him on the staff and blocked him from interviewing. What's the plan with him? Why go out and get a different OC if you regard someone highly enough that you won't let them interview with another team?
I am just going to say it...I feel like good old Rick has mismanaged the team this year. He dumps all of our QBs and spends mega bucks on Cousins. He then hires outside of the org for our OC when he apparently wants to stash Stefanski for some reason. Maybe, just maybe, there were candidates in house for those positions (OC and QB) that could have worked out better. Honestly, I feel like we're going to deeply regret letting Teddy go. To me, Rick overreacted to our ass whuppin' in Philly. He immediately wanted to emulate what they did. What they did was capture lightning in a bottle. Just look at them this year. DeFillipo's play calling is poor.

I hear what you are saying about the overreaction but when it comes to the OL, there wasn't enough of a reaction. The offense is a mess, DeFilippo sucks and I was pissed that Cook was not utilized more especially since he was successful. There is so much regression going on. I was ticked that the offense could not capitalize on a turnover and then turned it over. I have been wondering about Stefanski as well. I hate that so many weapons are going to waste. The play calling is bland and predictable. I am not as mad about the QB money as I am about the OL. If you are going to spend big on a QB, you need him to have protection otherwise what is the point.

Oh yeah, this for sure! We have had O-line issues since way back before Favre. This is a decade!!!
Thank God we didn't trade away Mac Alexander or Waynes. We have needed every single bit of our CB depth.
Why we continue the Treadwell experiment is baffling to me. Robinson did okay but dropping that TD was a back breaker. I continue to wonder why we got rid of Jarius. That guy just made plays for us and was healthy and reliable. That's another head scratcher of an offseason move, for me at least.
I guess I just feel like Rick pushed all his chips to the middle of the table. It was that "dream team" scenario. Those don't work out. And as you said, you go and spend those mega bucks on a QB and then don't get him the protection he needs. Sure seems like a derrrrr moment to me.

I hope Flip is gone after the season.  The Viking offense was no challenge for the mediocre Pats D.  I don't think there's a decent team in the NFL that fears the Viking offense.  There's talent to work with, but the tempo, speed, and creativity just seems missing.

Yup, makes you wonder if Jaire Alexander was right, huh?
We have the players on O to be explosive and monstrous. If Shurmur was still the OC we'd be rolling.

I'll say this: I think we pass more than we should.
Rare game where we finally had running lanes for Cook.  9 carries, 84 yards, 9.3 YPC, and what do we do?  44 pass attempts in a close game in bad weather.
This is the truth...  I've been harping on this for awhile now.  Flip just can't commit to running the football and I don't know why...  This offense would be much better if we stuck to it.  How is Dalvin Cook not getting 15+ rushing attempts per game?

I don't get it.
I think it's his inexperience. With experience comes prudence, confidence, calm. He doesn't have it yet, and so he panic calls. At least that's how I see it. Cook even had a nice run that was called back due to penalty. You have to get him the ball. Even if it takes some no-gainers, you have to keep defenses honest. And he can break one at any time. The one off right tackle that went for about 10 was one toe grab away from the house.

Zimmer hires coaches, not the GM.

You don't think Rick had any input in Flip's hiring? Well, ok...

Excuse time is over.  We're heading into Week 13 of the season.  There is no way we should be scoring 10 points with Thielen, Diggs, and Cook on offense...
