We have 2 different threads lamenting the state of emergency that is our country due to Trump being president... yet the ones who agreed with those sentiments are the ones telling OTHERS to stop playing the victim card.  OK...

Well, this has been fun boys and girls; but life is too short to waste on this kind of stuff.  If you really want to argue politics- and really let the hate flow- there's a better place for it: http://vikinghorn.proboards.com  You don't have to worry about being civil there at all (not that I'm saying anyone here has been un-civil).  I say: check it out and enjoy!

Nazis and white supremacists are evil, yes. There can't be other answer.

Why do people insist on taking this stance? Fuck 'em! Nobody is excusing the behavior of antifa, but let's all agree as a benchmark starting place, fuck Nazis. Seems pretty reasonable to me!
2 things.  First of all: it's hard to condemn all Nazi's... when that is what liberals call every person who disagrees with them.  In other words, about 50% of the country are Nazi's.  So... if we are going to agree that all Nazi's are evil, then we have to agree that all conservatives are evil.  MAYBE if liberals (and conservatives, for that matter) stop calling everyone with whom they disagreed "Nazi's" we could actually come to some agreement on how we SHOULD feel about the German socialist party.

Second of all, what makes "white supremacists" worse than other bigots?  If Adolph hates black people because of the color of their skin... how is that existentially different from John hating someone because they are a Christian?  Or Jane hating Judy because she's a conservative... or a Trump voter?

How about if we say that ALL forms of bigotry are wrong?

Oh my God, just stop playing the victim. Who called you a Nazi? Who called anyone a Nazi? I bring up right wing resurgence in Europe and you all play the Nazi card. What's up with that?
im on mobile so i cant copy paste easily but on page one you lumpped “nazis and other right wingers” together. I would say many of the rightys here would identify as right wingers so the answer to your question is you called us nazis.
LOL. That was good.
Laugh all you want but when you lump horrible people like Nazis with normal every day  Americans like 1/2 the country identifies as, the result is you get is someone like Trump elected that calls out that bullshit.  Right wingers are sick of being called whatever "ist" is popular today.

I'll just leave it here for those who keep denying the Nazi linkage that has occurred over the past several months.  Keep in mind thehill is not some conservative mindtrap.  They tend to be a tad on the liberal side from what I've read.

Can I question your reading comprehension? Try to keep in mind that I brought up Nazis in reference to ACTUAL Nazis and other far right groups gaining a foothold in certain parts of the world. But if you want to think that means I'm calling you a Nazi, that's quite a stretch, but fine. I'm wondering if I or any other Democrat would be offended if someone mentioned "communists and other left wingers" winning elections in Europe. Somehow I doubt it. Maybe we're just not as good at identifying opportunities to play the victim.

I suppose there are those who think of Trump as Hitler. I think that's pretty silly. It's obvious to anyone who knows his or her history that his candidacy used many of the same strategies that Hitler used, but that doesn't make him another Hitler. The fact that he's a mentally unstable, incompetent pig makes him dangerous and an embarrassment to the White House, but it doesn't make him a genocidal mad man.

I think part of the difference is that people in America generally associate the Nazi's with the death of 6 million Jews in gas chambers.  As Americans we empathize with European Jews to a higher degree because many of us have European heritage.  We have museums and documentaries on TV.  We teach our children about how evil the Nazis were in school.  In general its a term that has a significant and well deserved black eye.

On the Communist side there has been equally terrifying crimes against their own people but we as a nation havn't been as empathetic towards them because for the last 70 years communist countries have been our enemies.  A dead enemy is a good enemy in many eyes.  When was the last time you saw a museum dedicated to Mao or Stalin?  Or had your kid have a discussion in school about how terrible they were?  Or a unit on why Communism is bad for us?  Heck I had a college teacher who though Communism was the solution to all are problems.

Call that playing the victim card or whatever makes you feel better I guess.  I'll just go back to my remediable reading course now.

Going in reverse a bit from where this thread has gone, if people are qualifying all Trump supporters as Nazis, it's because white supremacists like never before are coming out of the wood work feeling empowered by him. So people equate Trump and his followers to pro-white groups. And lots of people who aren't in those groups are lumped in. This isn't tough to figure out.

Where it gets confusing is this: I can understand why the alt-right, white supremacists like him. The Alex Jones types, the Richard Spencers, the David Dukes and all their followers. The fact that they like him doesn't shock me nor anybody. Those people are all scum and crazy, I think we can agree on that... what confuses people is how anybody who isn't in these groups supports him. He's built an entire career on lying, on fear-mongering, and just acting like a buffoon in general. He's the definition of a fraud, yet normal people like yourself and others who defend him vigorously don't seem to care.

It's honestly fascinating from a psychology standpoint because despite all the facts to the contrary, he's still found a way to connect with a huge group of people that feel disenfranchised. The one thing he IS good at is selling an image... but I've just always thought, "Okay, finally people will realize how much of a joke this guy is and wake up." But they haven't.

White supremacist coming out of the wood work??  Lol, those people have always existed. Theyve had hate filled rallies prior to Trump. Now you hear about them though. Theres a naritive to be written here. He’s not wrong when he calls it fake news.

Well yeah, I guess that was what I meant. Coming out of the wood work meaning they're front and center now. I know they didn't just decide to think like this when he was elected. They always have, but now they feel like they have a voice.

As for the fake news thing... that's just gone way, way too far. It's good to keep CNN, MSNBC, etc. in check. It's another to write off facts they present as fake or "alternative facts" because Trump and his cronies don't like them. Take his op-ed for example. His supporters will read that and rejoice over how well he's doing. But a simple check done by the "fake news" media literally refutes like 70% of his article as untruthful... using FACTS. But his supporters don't want to hear it. It's so incredibly peculiar to me.
