I would rather see Teddy move on and have a mediocre career some place else and we get a QB in FA that will win NOW and draft the next Tom Brady. As a business man I would not want to invest all that money in Teddy for 2 reasons A) he is nothing great, has potential but that was almost 2 years ago and B) that injury would scare the crap out of me to pay a lot of money long term.
I would pass.
With Bradford and Teddy gone, we would have money to sign up a lot if not all the big names long term and sign a big name QB
I'm with you Bob.
You never know about the knees.
How long before the other one goes?
I'm not saying get rid of him completely, just leery about long term contract.
I would love to see some kind of descent for both party's prove it deal. Heavily intensive based to make
Ted a boat load if he is truly able to finish a whole season.
I don't know the legality of it.
3 mill base
90%/95% of the snaps. = 10 Mil
65% completion or whatever top 10 average is = 3 mill
7 yards per attempt or what ever top 10 average is = 3 mill
yada yada yada
If you want to make top 10 $ you better be able to produce top 10 numbers
This is not exactly how it would be, but something along those lines.
Then something that would allow Viking an easy out if they want/need, or continue with an already agreed upon
yearly salary's after the first year.
where were you on extending Sam? his knees were very much as questionable as Teddys will be going forward.
No and I like Sams upside when healthy.
Even if he won us a SB, I personally (as if I have any say in it)would not offer a long term contract. Just to damn undependable.
I hoped Sam would get us through the season.
Leave Ted on PUP or IR
Toll his contract let Ted prove himself next off season.
If he did fine before end of 2018
Write the man a fat contract.
The Vikings can do a fat contract for Teddy with team protections based on being on the roster, Guru had an example in one of the threads yesterday of what he thought it would look like. basically the meat of the contract is in a yearly roster bonus.
Teddy is going to get paid by somebody, its in the Vikings best short term interest to be the team to pay him or Case. general consensus is that Teddy has the higher upside so he makes the most sense right now to be looking at signing as the starter IMO, but we dont see him so its really hard to say for sure, i just dont think that Zim would be even entertaining the idea of playing Teddy unless he was really convinced there was an upside to him over Case.
Remember the days of Bollinger, Ponder etc?

You think other teams are going to be lined up to sign Ted if he doesn't play this year?
I get the fan favorite part of believing that. Same thing was said about letting Peterson hit the market.
I'm not up to speed on the tolling contract thing.
Would it not be in the Vikings best interest to go that route?
I think a better example would be Matt Kalil. He's a young player that vastly underperformed, had significant question marks and was still paid like a top LT due to the difficulty in filling that position with decent young talent.
AD on the other hand was a RB, which is relatively easy and cheap to fill, and we were going into the most talent filled RB draft in recent history.

Everybody hated and bashed on Ponder but he actually has had a lower QBR than Teddy.
which was kind of surprising.
Ponder ranked 16

Teddy ranked 17http://www.espn.com/nfl/qbr/_/year/2015
edit: had
The thing that bugs me about Teddy's injury is that nothing logical seems to have caused it. It just fell apart on him. People sometimes just have bad knees. I would worry that is the case with him. I would need to see a season of work out of him before committing any large and lengthy contracts for him.

Thats how i feel.
Anyone remember Dustin Keller(AUGUST 20, 2013),or Marus Lattimore?
Dustin Keller NFL career 2008-2012
It's true that San Francisco 49ers running back Marcus Lattimore is well on his way to a full recovery from the same constellation of ligament injuries and dislocation as Keller's.
On December 12, 2012, Lattimore confirmed in a press conference that he would enter the 2013 NFL Draft. On April 27, 2013, he was drafted in the fourth round, with the 131st overall pick, by the San Francisco 49ers. On May 31, 2013, the San Francisco 49ers signed Lattimore to a 4-year deal worth $2,460,584 including a signing bonus of $300,584. [25] On August 27, 2013, he was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list. [26]
On November 5, 2014, Lattimore announced his retirement from the NFL

Geoff you have any thoughts on Bradford?
Could he look for a deal with prove it incentives.
Sign with another team ?
Or just retire?
Sadly, all of those are on the table. The thoughts that his current knee issue will force him to retire is probably exaggerated. But for a 30 year old who has made roughly $114M in his career thus far, life after football at least has to be a consideration. But NFL players are wired a little differently so thinking logically doesn't always work.
The only way I see Sam returning to MN is if something unexpected happens and Bridgewater finds his way to free agency and is going to command a contract the Vikings aren't comfortable with. At that point I could see them giving Bradford a short-term deal with incentives while also bringing Keenum back. Otherwise more likely I could see him getting a shot in Arizona or Denver since they're trying to win now and will be on the lookout for QB upgrades. @"Geoff Nichols", have you heard anything out of the organization in regards to Sloter? Are the Vikings impressed by him? Is there any chance he could play next year (not meaning as a starter necessarily), or is he still a year or two away from possibly seeing the field?
As far as I've heard, they love him. He isn't ready to play now, but I think they have high hopes for him as a backup moving forward. Probably the best developmental QB they've had.

Out here in Broncos Country, the fans were seriously up-in-arms over letting him go, and bringing in Brock. Fans out here seem to think he's got future star potential. Diamond in the rough type of stuff.
In your mind, and in the minds of the Vikings- Do they see him similarly (diamond in the rough with starter potential), or are we looking at another career back-up like McLeod Bethel-Thompson/ Todd Bauman?

He has legitimate starting talent. Look up his strange back story, lots of potential that just never was able to get on the field for various reasons outside of his control.
