not to be that guy.... but who else is not expecting much from Cleveland at LG? its been the achilles heel of this unit since Hutch played there, no matter who they tried there its been a bust. personally I was hoping they would at least try Davis at LG and then switch them if he struggles to pick it up.
Cleveland will be the best LG we've had since Hutch. That's not a hot take.
A first round LT prospect who dropped to the 2nd round, and pretty good PFF grades from last season, Cleveland has a far better chance to succeed there than any of the series of clowns we've had there since Hutch.
Hard to say that: he was very inconsistent last year. I'm not ready at all to dump on him, but he got shoved around for a big kid. My luke warm take is I don't feel confident he'll improve greatly.
Everything I've heard is that he played very well for a rookies thrust into the starting line up while changing positions. I don't see how going back to his natural side won't help him.

The simplest and best explanation I've heard for the difficulty of changing sides: "If you're right handed, trying wiping with your left hand".

Ive never heard that one, but it puts it pretty accurately, so many think that because some players make that transition that everyone should be able to.... I can write my name with either hand, but one is certainly more legible than the other and we are talking about expecting them to perform at the highest level at a foreign position.

Ezra Cleveland, who trained as the 2nd team left guard in camp and started 9 games at right guard out of necessity, should move back to left guard with Davis playing at right.
I expect the OL to be (L to R) Darrisaw - Cleveland - Bradbury - Davis - O'Neill

I'm not sure if I want to laugh, cry, or weep because he's still on the team. Only way to go is up, I suppose.

You're right! I thought it was Dozier! =)

To be fair, he admitted it and that he thought a screen was called. So it was just a mistake, not an actual attempt to take out his QB
Unlike Dozier who tackled Cousins after he whiffed on his block.

actually wasnt his PFF grades not that great? like lower 1/4 of those in his group? i remember seeing his grades and thinking that I thought he was better than the was graded.
LIke most rookies, he was up and down. Did well run blocking and not so well pass blocking. His overall grade was 66.2. Actually that's a pretty good mark for a rookie, playing right guard for the first time in his life.
I looked at the PFF grades of all the OLs we considered in free agency, from Joe Thuney and Forrest Lamp to Austin Blythe, Lane Taylor and Eric Fisher. Their first few years vary between OK and awful.
Cleveland's overall rookie grade at RG was better than all of them including Thuney. I think Ezra's got a bright future, especially on the left side. But we'll see.
Thanks for bringing some perspective to this, Maroon. I'm high on Cleveland this year, especially now that he'll be on his natural side and hopefully added some strength this off-season.
Ezra was a good run blocker last year, I'm pretty sure Dalvin had monster numbers running inside and outside to the right last season. Running to the left was another story... I'll see if I can find the stats, but Cleveland and O'Neill really opened some holes for Dalvin last season.
The main issue I saw with Cleveland in pass pro was he was playing RG like a LT. Instead of keeping his shoulders square and anchoring, he would give up his outside shoulder and try to ride a guy out just like he would do at tackle. If cleans that up, he'll be fine.
As far as Davis, I'm always a fan of keeping guys on the same side as where they excelled in college when it comes to the OL. If we want immediate returns from these young guys, keep Davis at RG and put Cleveland back on the left and let's roll.
