Detroit requests to interview Vikes OC Pat Shurmur
#51
one would think Detroit would lean to a defensive minded coach

Who will replace him?  I wonder if they would take a look at Wade Wilson?

Cardinals have also requested an interview.
Carson Palmer could very well retire. So there could also be an opening for a QB. "Keenum/Bradford "

Per NFL news, he just announced his retirement.

How many coordinators have been hired from the bye week teams since they allowed it?
The recent one I recall is that Shanahan had interviewed and was said to be going to accept the San Fran job prior to the Super Bowl last year... and did officially do so the day after.

Perhap Shurmur won't be given an offer by Detroit but a person has to question if that would be his first choice since he's a Michigan native; born, raised, Michigan State alum, coaching start.

Living in Michigan I get all the sports radio, and the Lions GM is Quinn from the New England Organizational tree. It's a pretty solid conclusion that he wants a defensive minded HC ala Belichick. He has also seen what Minnesota has done with Zimmer at the helm. My guess is Shurmur doesn't wind up in Detroit. AZ could be attractive if he can get a QB, but they got old in a hurry. Going to be a grind to get them back in contention with  San Fran seemingly on their way with Jimmy G. and the Rams.

Arizona--No QB, strong defense, aging offensive stars
Chicago--Young QB with upside, good young defense, great running game
New York--Declining QB but 2nd pick overall in 2018 draft, majorly underachieving defense, no running game
Detroit--Statistically top 5 QB, not great running game, not great defense
To my eye the Chicago job looks the most attractive unless he likes the idea of bringing in his own QB with a strong D for support (Arizona) or sees a great offensive opportunity (Detroit).

Detroit is like Cleveland north with slightly more success and an extra year on the coach life expectancy.

Sadly Chicago does look the best.  hopefully Shurmur doesn't go there.

If Shurmur does leave to be a Head Coach...  I hope he keeps his hands off the Vikings assistant coaches.

I don't believe many are his guys, are they? How many did Zimmer take from Cincy, any?

This is the one thing that may end up getting Shurmur in some trouble when he interviews. Its hard to say who he'll be able to recruit onto his staff. There are a few internal candidates who could get promotions externally if he were to follow. Otherwise you're really looking hard at the Andy Reid coaching tree to dig up names. If there is a weakness in Shurmur's interviews this likely could be it.
