can we just cut him?

Call up Kaep.  Sign him, Kubiak was the last coach to want him.  He can't be worse than this bum, and his legs would give us a chance.

When I read articles or theories about the 49ers or any team trading for Cousins, I think of Andy Dalton. They are the same age, very similar careers in terms of stats, wins, and playoff wins (or lack).

If a team could pick up Dalton as a waiver / free agent, as the Cowboys did...why would anyone give the Vikings a high draft pick for Cousins?
I don't think the Vikings are asking for a high draft pick? Where did you get that information? The Vikings might be forced to cut Cousins this offseason just to save the over 40 mil of guaranteed money for 2022.

Well, in a post on this same thread, earlier this week you proposed we may soon swing a 3-team deal with the 49ers and Panthers which would bring the Vikings not only Teddy Bridgewater but a 2nd round pick. That would be an amazing deal for the Vikings IMO. The OP suggested we could trade Cousins to the 49ers for a 1st, maybe even better. I think these, and the articles in sites like Fansided, are just amateur imaginings.

As for what the Vikings are "asking"? I don't know but I have seen no indications they are shopping Cousins around. Ever since they signed him, my belief has been that Spielman promised the Wilfs that, even though he spent 1st round picks on Ponder, Bridgewater, and Bradford, and had better results with a cheap FA not intended to start (Keenum), he had finally identified a franchise QB in Cousins and he practically guaranteed a Super Bowl if they would outbid the Jets and anyone else who wanted him.

I think Spielman is totally committed to Cousins, and it may be a case where if Cousins goes down (proves a failure), Spielman goes down with him. IDK, the Wilfs may let Spielman try his hand at finding a new franchise QB, but he's already had a fair number of chances.

But I raised Dalton because he - not to mention Cam Newton - was available for the waiver fee. What would make Cousins more attractive to any team, even the 49ers, than those castoffs? Because if the Vikings decide he can't win here, Cousins is a castoff, and there is no market for failed QBs in the NFL .

Why @Jor-El do you want to keep paying him if the Vikings are not a win now team?

When did I ever say I want to keep paying Cousins? I've said multiple times on this board that I think the Vikings should rebuild with new GM, HC, and QB. But you and others in this thread have been talking about trades that could happen this season, or that the Vikings may be done with him, and I see no support for that being real. Even your question suggests the possibility that, "the Vikings are not a win now team" - what do you base that upon? They gave Cousins an extension less than 7 months ago, signed Cook to a big contract, and traded a high future draft pick for a defensive player who is only under contract for 2020. Do any of those actions seem like a team giving up on 2020 for a full rebuild?

There are 2 types of posts here:
1. Discussion and interpretation of what the Vikings are doing or may do, based on what we actually observe.
2. Fantasies which should be called, "If I ran the Vikings" - what a fan

My comments are usually about #1, and I try to make it pretty clear if I'm dishing out #2.

So, whatever you or I may think or wish, I see nothing to indicate the Vikings plan to stop paying, and playing, Cousins. It all could change Monday morning, but not yet.

I appreciate you as Viking fan more than you know! Yes, I would love to see Teddy back in Purple, and yes I would love to get our 2nd round pick back!

I am guilty as charged!

I would love to hear your opinion on how to fix this mess! This is a blog, your opinions are welcome.

Carl, all I would propose is:
1. Fire Spielman. He can't find a winning QB and has had too many attempts to et him try again. Whatever else Spielman has done well, if a GM can't fill the QB spot, get rid of him. Hire someone who has picked at least one good QB.
2. Fire Zimmer. New GM needs to pick his own HC anyway, but Zimmer was never a bright light. He made his reputation by being part of those '90s Cowboy teams, where a DC just had to keep the opponents from outscoring Emmitt and Troy, and then longevity as a DC. I don't know why the Wilfs ever thought "he's been passed over for head coaching jobs more than anybody" was some kind of positive qualification.

Then those guys have to rebuild the team. Very doubtful that will include Kirk Cousins.

If they lose against the Bears in Chicago.
My reasoning...
1. At GB. I think they lose. Big picture: LeFleur would have swept Zim in two years.
2. Detroit. We should win but very well could lose too
3. At Chicago. I think we lose. Bigger picture: Nagy would retain his dominance over Zim.

We can't have a coach that can't beat two teams in the division. That means we have very little chance of winning the division going forward thus playoff chances will be hard to come by. That will warrant a clean house in my book.
