Reporter: 'So why did you cut Daniel Carlson?'
Zimmer: 'Did you see the game?'
LOL. With all due respect to a young man in Carlson that I'm sure did not want to miss those kicks, Zimmer gives zero f%^&s. Make the kicks, do your job. Its a bottom line business, the NFL.
and I am fine with that, but what pisses me off is the dual standard, a kicker misses a few kicks and hes gone, a defensive player has a bad game and nothing changes. yes he should have made those kicks, but we have seen Waynes and others as they were being developed make multiple mistakes and they are back out there the next series (as they should be) I dont have an issue with making the move for bailey as I have no idea where carlsons head is at right now, but at some point the nfl hard asses need to realize that kicker are part of the game and teams that treat the position with a little more respect might get rewarded. of course fans are worse than coaches likely could ever be, but Zimmer seems to harbor some special venom for kickers.
A kicker gets a couple $100,000+ per game to make a few kicks. DO YOUR JOB. Its why you get paid that crazy amount of money. I feel for the kid, but if you can't make a 35 yard FG, than you shouldn't be in the NFL. I am sorry. If he had a game like that again, than he will cost other people their job. Its the nature of the business.

I think the end of OT was that "get back out there and show why we should keep you."
As far as Zim's answer, how would you answer that stupid question?

Zim got "Walshed" a few years ago by being patient. I'm sure he doesn't want that to happen again. Carlson won the kicking job, but was on shaky ground ever since as he had misses in those last two preseason games.
I think Zim gave Carlson a chance to redeem himself with that last "chip shot" to win the game. After the miss Zim had seen enough, and me too.
Glad he's gone, and good luck to him in the future. I like having a "grown-up" kicker now, and the team won't have to nuture and coddle a youngster that feels bad after every miss. Carlson just wasn't ready for the NFL, and may never be.

Nah, kickers need to make kicks. Its 100% mental, there's no physicality like there is in the rest of the positions. I feel for a young rookie who really, is just a young man who tried his best but didn't measure up in the NFL. Zimmer has been BURNED more than most other NFL coaches with stupid kicking horseshit, so dude you might have to give him a pass here, lmao.

Zim has had a hard on for kickers before the Walsh implosion, like many hard ass football guys they dont see kickers as "football" players and talk about them like they are 2nd class citizens.
as far as that reporters question... i would have simly pointed to him and then pointed to the door and said "you are stupid, go home"
I don't have an archived vault in my files of everything Zim has ever said regarding kickers, but I honestly can't say I've ever heard Zim say or act like a kicker is a second class citizen. These guys want to win. I feel bad for the kid but this team (and any team in the NFL, really) wants to win and wants to do it now. There are too many games, especially division games, that come down to field goals. We can feel bad for the kid but Zim/Rick did the right thing and I'm glad they did. They have to think about this whole team not just a kicker who obviously isn't ready mentally to play in the NFL.

Did Tomasson ask this? He is known for asking some of the dumbest questions ever. I mean it's pretty obvious why he is gone. This question is so unnecessary. But I have no issue whatsoever with Zimmer's response. I don't know if he has issues with kickers but he recognized an issue/concern with Carlson and a solution was found. I was thinking there was no way Carlson should be kicking next week. The crowd would have been brutal to him. He needs to get his head right.

Wha?? Man, I don't get that take at all. Yes, everyone makes mistakes as they learn the complexities of their position. Takes a Zim corner years to figure it out. Takes most QBs a couple of years to figure out how to play QB in the NFL. But kicking isn't complicated. There are no "plays" to learn, nothing to "read" or react to. It's pretty much see ball, kick ball, go sit down. And if you make most of your kicks, you can make a nice living. Clearly Carlson is technically sound or he wouldn't have won the job in Eagan, but game situations are different. Every kick inside of 50 yards is 100% in the head. Yes, every kicker misses important kicks, but most kickers are able to make an adjustment and make the next one. The problem with Carlson is that he missed two straight in preseason game three, which is alarming enough, but 3 straight in one game? That's criminal. Gotta great leg, he just doesn't have the head to be an NFL kicker.
