JJ McCarthy
#41
I don't see KOC benching JJ....I think JJ needs to work through his issues on the field. Mentally he wants to do well but you won't be breaking him with any heat he's fading from fans or any pressure to succeed. If he were to get benched, that would be a very very bad sign for his future. Not saying it can't happen, but I'm saying you can put a wrap on the JJ McCarthy era if that happens....and KOC would be telling the world that. Sitting someone doesn't help and it never has. IMO, its the last branch you grab before hitting the bottom on a fall....and it won't stop the fall. KOC would just be putting JJ out of his misery doing something like that and they'd move on.

JJ is going to succeed or fail on the field, taking reps.

But its not a reason not too give JJM a mental break if that's the medicine needed.

I can see Brosmer playing more loose as he really has nothing to lose,  JJM came in with so much fanfare and sky high expectations and I believe he really wants to meet those expectations,  but in the process he is just too amped up,  there is talk about the game having to slow down,  but I dont think that is the issue here,  I think he has himself so screwed up and cant find a way to unscrew himself.

It doesn't appear to be a mechanics thing for JJ but a mental thing. I remember when the Diva Diggs forced a trade and we were all joking about how he would fare with Josh Allen who had the same issues with balls flying off course all the time. Things settled down for Allen and he's money these days. Will the same happen for McCarthy? Let's hope so.

100%.  It’s time to recognize it’s JJ or bust, at least for the rest of the year and likely 2026 as well. Probably we should get younger on D once eliminated this year to give JJ every opportunity.

Benching McCarthy for someone named Max Brosmer after 6 games is a take I really thought I'd have to go to reddit for lol.

I'd love to hear how benching him is going to make him mentally stronger, with citations on previous examples where the strategy has been so effective. If fans want to kick him to the curb that's fine but doing it under the guise of helping McCarthy seems a bit over the top.

I get that, but I look at it like they've surrounded him with talent and the offensive line protected him all day yesterday. He just sprayed the ball all over the field. I haven't seen that kind of inaccuracy since Tarvaris Jackson was peppering the turf in the Metrodome. I don't care if it's game 1 or game 100, there's no way to justify how he played yesterday

iirc The falcons benched Penix for 1 game earlier this year and it didnt ruin him.  I am sure if I went back through the history books I will find others that have been set down for a game or two when they cant get out of their own way.

He got benched in a blowout loss to the Panthers, and although he didn't play well, that wasn't the reason. They didn't want him injured. Which makes sense considering he's now injured and done for the year. Cousins attempted like 7 passes after he came in toward the end.
