BREAKING: Vikings make trade with Houston, add 1st round pick
#41
I don’t think Nix makes it out of the top 10. It’s posible he’s the target and they are guaranteeing they can get him. I think the NFL likes him far more than pundits do. Tape doesn’t lie. Dropping a bomb in the bucket in stride at 60 yards at his pro day probably didn’t hurt him either.

Jayden Daniels is my number 1 and he could be on their board as well. This is the guy I think they are targeting and trying to get to 2.

Welp, it's nice to have options and this helps us with that. Unfortunately for us this now becomes essentially a one player draft if we move up because we don't draft again until pick #108 in the 4th round.
You don't get something for nothing. And so far anyway, we haven't given up a single future 1st, which was pretty much the assumption going in...
I do certainly like that aspect. It's a good thing we have cap money to spend next season because we've lacked picks, and probably will continue to lack picks, to replenish the roster.

I think this has been all part of the plan all along. KAM likes signing young FAs with some upside....he'll continue to do that with much more cap space next year. If he pulls off this future QB thing, some people are going to have egg on their face about him. Because the FA period so far for them has been stellar.

I'll personally be shocked if Nix is anywhere near the top 10.

And if he blows it, a lot of people will also have egg on their faces. I won't hold my breath, but certainly am hopeful like everyone else.

As far as free agency goes, calling what we've done "stellar" so far is a stretch. Outside of Jones giving us a little more juice at running back, where are the upgrades?

Right but we will have a ton of money to surround a potential franchise QB with proven players - not luck of the draw draft picks.  We already have a great nucleus on Offense (assuming we work everything out with JJ and Darrisaw).  We could essentially focus on improving the D based on this upcoming season results.  I'm excited that we finally bit the bullet and are going this direction.  For me, it was Kirk's Achilles that made it 100% clear to go this direction.

Like I said before, I want a team that can consistently challenge for a SB not just playoff contention which we have essentially been only in good years.  But no threat beyond round 1 which we didn't surpass anyway Smile

Now, I am excited to see which of the QB's they are committed too?  My favorite is Jayden Daniels.  Not huge on Maye but every pundit seems to have him in the Top 5.  I think JJ, Nix, Penix all have a chance to fall to 11 but my carpe diem mantra is to go get the guy you want at almost all cost.  If they are convinced like the Chiefs were with Mahomes or the Bills with Allen then I am not going to hold that against the organization in fact I am thrilled.  Now maybe we are in love with JJ and most pundits think he will be there at 11 or in the second round.  I don't care, go get him at 4.  Overall, draft picks are overrated so if you are going to sacrifice them make sure it is for a franchise QB roll of the dice.

Ooops, I just noticed I read your post wrong Sad

KO is a phenomenal play designer and the players love him. He's decent with his challenges and he's young enough to have upside. Anyone upset about the job he's done has unrealistic expectations.
Anyways back to the topic... BOOM! (Hi Wet)
Losing next year's second stings but overall good move. Now we need the Pats to go for it. I'm really hoping for another announcement fairly quickly. Would sit much more comfortable knowing we have a top 4 pick in hand versus sweating it out for the next month+, but that may be the reality.
Either way, I admire Kwesi for having a plan and working it. Whether it's a good plan or not remains to be seen but kudos to him for having a vision and trying to make it happen.
Honestly even if we move up to the 3 and take Penix, there will be people who bemoan VaLuE or whatever but if the team has conviction on one guy, then they need that guy. Even if it's an "overpay". Teams get crazy every year and draft players way before they're mocked. They can't leave the face of the franchise to chance... as I've been telling you all  Wink.
Let's go get JJM or Maye!!! I'll have NFLShop.com on standby on draft night so I can grab the jersey of our new face of the franchise, and I won't be the only one. Waiter, please top off my kool-aid!

I could only see giving up two 1sts to get into the top 3, but would seem like a lot to move up lower than that, so would think that they feel as though they can get into the top 3.  I am totally on board with doing whatever it takes to get the QB you want.

Looks like they don't luv either Nix or Penix.
That's certainly what it appears like on the surface of this move.
Not at 11, but maybe at 23 now.  11 can add a STUD DL (if you can't move up) and 23 you can get Penix all while keeping your 1st next year.   That would be a fucking haul for a team with key pieces in Jefferson, Addison, Darrisaw, ONeil, a revamped defense and $120M to spend next year
I was torn when I heard this news because the biggest prize we're giving up is a 2nd rounder next year...but after balancing that with the massive cap space that we acquire for 2025, maybe this is more shrewd...build key pieces through the draft this year at 11 and 23 (please don't miss), and next year through FA.  After further review, damn good move.

It's all pretty good for the Vikes. Bottom line for me is this: We now have what it will take to at least get QB4. And they did it without giving up any future 1sts. Just THAT is pretty exciting.
Pretty much this. Its a high upside, low downside move and positions them ahead of the Giants, Denver, and others to move up. The future 2nd also is offset by the one if not two compensatory 3rd round picks they are going to end up with from Kirk/Danielle signing elsewhere. Its likely they still have 4 picks in rounds 1-3 next year (more if Flores were to get a HC job).

Even if you play out the scenario where they can't move up for a QB you still are looking at adding two very high-end defensive pieces. Say Verse and Byron Murphy or Verse and Quinyon Mitchell.

Lots of scenarios that probably play out better than having #11 and #42
